Defense Sec Gates recently spoke at an event in San Fransicko where he said the Marine Corps needs to get back to its maritime traditions and not being a second land army.
Here is an interesting article in the current edition of the Marine Corps Gazette written by a captain in the infantry. This article was written before Sec Gates made his comments.
