The paper is mandated reading for all UK Army officers.

The paper briefly sets out the global and (UK) national strategic context for defence before analysing trends in the character of conflict (with 5 and 20 year snapshots) drawing deductions. It then concludes at looking at the implications for defence.

There are auxiliary papers dealing specifically with the Land, Air and Maritime environments.

It will be interesting with the announcement of the UK's Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) next week to see what coherence there is between the two... :D
