I'm no American, so I'll just drop these links here and leave the discussion to others. To me it looks as if Jewish Orthodoxy, Christian Domininism and Muslim Wahhabism (in chronological order of their foundations) all have a comparable potential to disrupt the separation of church and state (if it existed at all) and cause a lot of grief by pursuing policies that accept disadvantages in the mortal world in exchange for (in great part only) spiritual advantages.

There's some talk about Wahhabism on this forum, so I guess 'Western' equivalents should be mentioned as well.
