I highly recommend two articles on guerilla warfare that appeared in the Military Review. The first, Beating the Guerilla, was featured in the Dec. 1955 issue of Military Review. It focuses on COIN during the Korean War. The second, Guerilla Warfare in the Ukraine, was in the Nov. 1960 issue of Military Review. It outlines the successes of the UPA in fighting the Germans and Soviets during WWII. The UPA succeeded in transforming an insurgency into military units-perhaps the most difficult step in guerilla warfare.

Thanks, Menning!

I would similarly recommend 3 pubs from the Center for Military History

German Antiquerrilla Operations in the Balkans (1941-1944) (http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/wwii/balkan/intro.htm)

and

The German Campaigns in the Balkans (http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/wwii/balkan/intro.htm)

and

Rear Area Security in Russia: The Soviet Second Front Behind the German Lines (http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/wwii/20240/20-240c.htm)

I have used all 3 in history lessons on this subject.

best

Tom
