Anyone see a resolution on this?

This allegation of a high-level assassination has stayed out of the mainstream media, now there could be many explanations for that, but their silence even to report such a spurious story is odd.

According to the official Saudi Press Agency (http://www.spa.gov.sa/English/readsinglenews.php?id=1020871&content_id=&scroll=1), Prince Bandar attended an audience between the King and GCC officials on August 7th.

Makes more sense. It would be hard to keep that quite particularly in a Muslim community where the burial has to happen before the next sunset. Plus there were too many foreigners at this occasion.

So who started the rumor and why ... other then it sells papers .... errr electrons.

The allegation first appeared in the Iranian and official Syrian press. Draw your own conclusions! ;)

... so the next question is, what was the point? Was it meant as a threat? Was it to leak an a connection between the CIA and the Saudis (like that would be a surprise), was there something else in the original mews report that we missed?

If an official agency is putting out news as propaganda (PSYOPS) then what could have been the purpose?

While we are on the subject, have they done this before?

Or was this whole thing just a fabrication by voltairenet? They are an interesting bunch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltaire_Network

Good questions. I don't really know, but this "story" did come right after the bomb in Damascus that killed several senior Syrian officials, a bombing that was attributed to Bandar. Perhaps this was a bit of "revenge" propaganda intended for short term effect.
