An update on Post 233 from the BBC:
Mr Kiyaramo later told the BBC that a "hiccup" meant to money would be paid by Tuesday night."We expect the amnesty to be paid tonight to 30,000 youths involved in the amnesty programme. The Central Bank has released the money," he said.
Under the amnesty deal, each militant is entitled to 65,000 naira ($203; £153) a month and job training.Link:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-36953269

A somewhat strange report, especially when it says:
According to some analysts, Isis rejected Shekau because of Boko Haramís deadly attacks on Muslims.

(https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/aug/05/isis-tries-to-impose-new-leader-on-boko-haram-in-nigeria?utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=GU+Today+main+NEW+H+categories&utm_term=184727&subid=10047113&CMP=EMCNEWEML6619I2)

Tell that to the people of Iraq and Syria, let alone anywhere else.

As we know history shows terrorist groups often split and consume themselves fighting each other - perhaps the Nigerian state has a "hidden hand" in this, though I doubt that.

King Jaja, our only declared Nigerian member hasn't posted for a long time, but I miss his on the ground perspective.

Hat tip to WoTR for this article by a John Hopkins University researcher, which is full of figures, plus three charts:http://warontherocks.com/2016/09/charting-boko-harams-rapid-decline/

YOLA/BAUCHI, Nigeria ó Suicide bombers killed at least six people and injured 14 in a crowded market in the northeastern Nigerian town of Madagali on Friday, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said.
A police spokesman had earlier said 15 were killed, and did not identify any suspects.
Suicide bombings are common in Nigeria's northeast, the center of a bloody campaign by jihadist group Boko Haram to create an Islamic state. Madagali was also hit last month, when schoolgirl suicide bombers killed as many as 56 people in a coordinated attack on a market.

Missed this article; with a sub-title 'Every week, there are more massacres, but nobody seems to mind — not even their own government'
Link:http://www.spectator.co.uk/2017/02/who-will-protect-nigerias-northern-christians/

IIRC KIng Jaja referred to this inter-communal conflict sometime ago, as the land used pastoralist Christians are attacked by Muslim herdsmen.

Hat tip to WoTR for this book review of Alexander Thurston's 'Boko Haram: The History of an African Jihadist Movement' by a US SOF officer who has served recently in Nigeria.

An article from CTC's Sentinel and the Abstract says:
Ever since Boko Haram’s leader Abubakar Shekau pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in March 2015, the group has been seen as firmly in the Islamic State fold. But as both the Islamic State and Boko Haram weaken, al-Qa`ida, which has a history of cooperation with jihadis in Nigeria, including factions within Boko Haram, may be making a takeover bid.Link:https://ctc.usma.edu/posts/a-jihadi-takeover-bid-in-nigeria-the-evolving-relationship-between-boko-haram-and-al-qaida

A short article lby Alex Thurston, a Visiting Assistant Professor of African Studies at Georgetown University, whose book was published in late 2017, 'Boko Haram: The History of an African Jihadist Movement'.

He ends with:
Nigeria is one of the most complicated countries in the world. Any resolution to the Boko Haram conflict will require a good deal of experimentation, trial and error, and even luck. It may also take quite a long time.Link:http://www.lawfareblog.com/five-myths-about-boko-haram
