A GCHQ explanation 'How does an analyst catch a terrorist?'. I always wonder about such publicity, is it info ops and neccessary? All quite simple, but by February 2020 the link had gone!

Perhaps Nada Bakos can provide an answer?

Yes in due course this will merge into the UK intelligence collection thread.;)

Do we ordinary people need to know? Enough that we let those that can, get on with their job.

As an after thought, I suspect that there are several ISIS terrorists more worried about getting caught with their smuggled hamburgers at the moment!

I always wonder about such publicity, is it info ops and necessary?
Not 'info ops', an entry-level recruiting effort by GCHQ. But the bottom line is that the case study provided on the website is extremely generic and does not compromise anything. Far more detailed and interesting information is in many publications readily available to the public on the subject. The website provides just a bare bones outline, not a discussion of sources and methods, and only hints at the multidisciplinary integration of intelligence. But the 'necessary' bit of the question can only be answered by GCHQ: How are they doing in attracting the type and quality of people they require to be effective in targeting existing and emerging communications?
