BUT the core answer to Russian political warfare which is definitely being directed right now at this very moment the US ...I could show you if you were in Berlin an attack ongoing since early morning US time against a power grid in the US coming out of deep Russia via four different cutouts....which is successfully being deflected from here and out of Europe BTW not the US.

This is the real world of kinetic activity that the previous quote refers to....and that is daily now...and silence out of Trump WH...

I have my biases and it is one of having the earned right to those biases when it comes to the defense of democracy.....and if I recall correctly I warned about Trump being elected. I took and still take the sentence in the oath....defend against domestic and foreign enemies seriously..

I like that I no longer have to ask permission to respond....as I own the response and it is my decision....

We spent the last week basically blocking Russian control servers handling a massive botnet which was supporting Le Pen on the info war front...so yes there was a hardcore hand at work....and no support came out of the US for these efforts....

So on the European populist front....Wilders blocked in the Netherlands...Le Pen down 26 points and will not make it....Austrian FPO lost even though winning first time around...German AfD down in polls to 7% from a high of 14% and going even more far right since yesterday.....

Europe is doing a rather good job of pushing back on the far right populism and the US response has been?

BTW...26 US proTrump twitter accounts were identified by us as being involved in this active Russian influence operations botnet effort....which had supported Trump in his campaign and now are suddenly "involved in France"???

We tracked a series of Russian started comments into the US and then suddenly watched them being picked up by these US proTrump accounts and fired back into France...coincidence...hardly....

Is it not strange that the majority of efforts to track/stop Russian influence ops with their fake news and fake/info war social media messaging comes out of Europe and not the US.....why is that?

Why is it that the democracies of Europe are far more involved in this "kinetic fight" than the democracy of the US?

This goes BTW to your political warfare thoughts...and not carried much in the US MSM was it?

One Trump Troll accused another of working with convicted Russian botnet hacker 'Docent' in the election of Trump.

What is interesting is that FBI Director admitting yesterday that there are three separate investigations ongoing.

Two high level Russian hackers recently charged and sentenced suddenly received their "freedom" in the face of over 20 years worth of jail.....this is one of them....

So what did they provide that allowed the FBI to drop a 20 year plus conviction and place them on time served and probation so to speak?

BTW..if the Federal government is moving on RICO charges then you know they have solid evidence as RICO is hard to prove in court...

PARIS (AP) — France's election campaign watchdog is investigating a hacking attack and document leak targeting presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron that his political movement calls a last-ditch bid to disrupt Sunday's tense runoff vote.
Fears of hacking and campaign interference have simmered throughout France's high-stakes, closely watched campaign — and boiled over Friday night as Macron's team said it had been the victim of a "massive and coordinated" hack.
His political movement said the unidentified hackers accessed staffers' personal and professional emails and leaked campaign finance material and contracts — as well as fake decoy documents — online.
The perpetrators remain unknown. While the hack is shaking up the already head spinning campaign, it's unclear whether the document dump would dent Macron's large poll lead over far-right Marine Le Pen going into the vote.

Another presidential election, another massive data dump seemingly intended to sabotage a center-left candidate. But in the case of France’s impending runoff, slated for Sunday, the latest leak of emails appears far more slap-dash than the Russian hacks and leaks that plagued Hillary Clinton’s campaign. And in this case, they’re timed to prevent the target of those leaks from even having a chance to respond.
On Friday, a collection of links to torrent files appeared on the anonymous publishing site PasteBin. The 9GB trove purports to be an archive of leaked emails from the party of Emmanuel Macron, the left-leaning candidate currently favored to win France’s impending runoff election against far-right opponent Marine Le Pen.
The latest data dump comes less than 48 hours before France’s election, possibly too late to shift its outcome—at least to the degree that the hacks of the DNC and Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta did in the months leading up to the US election. Its timing so close to the runoff could still prove strategic, as French law forbids candidates from speaking publicly for two days ahead of an election. That timing could prevent Macron himself from responding to any scandal that surfaces in the data dump, real or fabricated.
A Well-Timed Hack
In a statement, Macron’s political party confirmed that hackers had compromised it. “The En Marche! party has been the victim of a massive, coordinated act of hacking, in which diverse internal information (mails, documents, accounting, contracts) have been broadcast this evening on social networks,” reads a public statement in French from the Macron campaign. “The files which are circulating were obtained a few weeks ago thanks to the hacking of the professional and personal email accounts of several members of the campaign.”
En Marche’s acknowledgement of the hack doesn’t mean all of the leaked emails themselves are genuine; the party’s statement also warned that among the authentic documents in the leak were “numerous false documents intended to sow doubt and disinformation.”
At a glance, the hacked email haul appears to not be entirely fabricated, says Rob Graham, a security consultant for Errata Security who has downloaded portions of the collection. “It has the structure of real email archives,” Graham says. But he cautions that even if some part of the leak turns out to be genuine, it could easily contain specific forgeries designed to spark scandal.
“Presumably, someone will start pointing out any salacious emails,” Graham adds. “You can bet that someone like WikiLeaks will pick these emails apart and post them individually.”
A Familiar Pattern
Late last month, the security firm Trend Micro noted in a report that the Macron campaign appeared to be a target of the Russian-government-linked hacker group Fancy Bear, also known as Pawn Storm or APT 28. The firm’s researchers found a phishing domain created by the hacker group in March, designed to target the campaign by impersonating the site that En March uses for cloud data storage. At the time, the Macron campaign claimed that that hacking attempts had failed. On Friday morning, users of the anonymous forum 4Chan had also purported to have published evidence of Macron’s tax evasion, though those claims were also unverified, and it’s not clear if they’re connected to the current leak.
In the wake of Russian hackers’ attempt to sway the US election, which remains the subject of two Congressional investigations, the cybersecurity community has warned that the Kremlin may attempt similar tricks to swing elections towards its favored candidates in the French and upcoming German elections, too.
Former British intelligence staffer Matt Tait warned that regardless of what it contains, the simple fact of the data dump achieves certain objectives. “By all means, look through them,” he wrote on Twitter. “But do[so] with your eyes open and knowing that you’re being played for free negative coverage/headlines.”
The Macron campaign compared the hacking directly to the hacker targeting of Clinton campaign. “Intervening in the last hour of an official campaign, this operation clearly seeks to destabilize democracy, as already seen in the United States’ last president campaign,” the statement reads. “We cannot tolerate that the vital interests of democracy are thus endangered.”

Trump isn’t the end of Russia’s information war against America. They are just getting started.

In spring 2014, a funny story crossed our social media feeds. A petition on whitehouse.gov called for “sending Alaska back to Russia,” and it quickly amassed tens of thousands of signatures. The media ran a number of amused stories on the event, and it was quickly forgotten.
The petition seemed odd to us, and so we looked at which accounts were promoting it on social media. We discovered that thousands of Russian-language bots had been repetitively tweeting links to the petition for weeks before it caught journalists’ attention.
Those were the days. Now, instead of pranking petitions, Russian influence networks online are interfering with the 2016 U.S. election. Many people, especially Hillary Clinton supporters, believe that Russia is actively trying to put Donald Trump in the White House.
And the evidence is compelling. A range of activities speaks to a Russian connection: the theft of emails from the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign officials, hacks surrounding voter rolls and possibly election machines, Putin’s overt praise for Trump, and the curious Kremlin connections of Trump campaign operatives Paul Manafort and Carter Page.

This hashtag guided users to an alleged, possibly 9 GB, leak of Emmanuel Macron’s “campaign emails,” reportedly showing evidence of offshore accounts, tax evasion, and a slew of other nefarious activities.

Through a machine analysis, DFRLab tracked the onset of the campaign to the Twitter account of Jack Posobiec, the Washington DC Bureau Chief of an obscure, alt-right website, theRebelMedia. Posobiec’s bio on theRebel.media reveals that “in 2016, Jack was the Special Projects Director for Citizens for Trump, the largest Trump grassroots organization in the US,” and he is “a proud member of #SlavRight,” a nationalist Slavic movement.

Posobiec’s first tweet about the leaked Macron “campaign documents” occurred at 14:49 EST (18:49 UTC). This was then retweeted fifteen times in the first minute and 87 times in five minutes, suggesting the use of automated bots to amplify the signal.

The amplification of this “leak” came a day after Jack Posobiec claimed he was “being sued” by Emmanuel Macron. The hashtag also appeared hours before midnight in Paris when the official deadline to halt campaign activity was set.

Posobiec’s initial tweet was followed eight minutes later by one from user, William Craddick, another alt-right influencer whom the DFRLab has already identified as a fake news actor (see our post Spread It On Reddit). This was retweeted just over 200 times.

At the end of the French presidential debate between frontrunners Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen, the National Front candidate (Le Pen) attacked her rival by saying that she hoped that his offshore Bahamian account would not be revealed. On the next day, she repeated this during a morning political talk show but protected herself by adding that there was no evidence. Macron immediately filed a complaint with the prosecution for the dissemination of fake news to influence the outcome of the presidential election, and the Paris Prosecutor’s Office launched proceedings.
The French media quickly tracked the fake news trail, published at 7 p.m. in the American 4chan right-wing forum, and immediately propagated by dozens of pro-Kremlin twitter accounts with the #MacronCacheCash and #MacronGate tags. The rumor spread and was used only two hours later by Le Pen at the end of the debate.

Both documents were refuted by Macron’s campaign headquarters, which published his signatures and a graphology expert report backing the forgery claim.

Interesting WH comment now...totally contradicts all their previous statements....

(CNN)The White House said Thursday that removing FBI Director James Comey from his post may hasten the agency's investigation into Russian meddling.
"We want this to come to its conclusion, we want it to come to its conclusion with integrity," said deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders, referring to the FBI's probe into Moscow's interference in last year's election. "And we think that we've actually, by removing Director Comey, taken steps to make that happen."

The statement was a surprising admission from the White House that Comey's sudden dismissal on Tuesday may have an effect on the Russia probe.

Strategic Campaign Group @scgpolitical being raided by @fbi today had a lot of Russian and bot-type followers. One of the indicators of a bot network is in fact no account photos...initial scan indicated over 60 bot type accounts as followers...actually a high number for a so called political simple consulting firm unusual was also the high number of Russian followers.

We are now checking the interactions of these bots with other accounts say in France ie LePen or right wing accounts in Germany.

Recently a IT security study of just Twitter indicated a potential of over 45M accounts being opened and just sitting there...virtually all with no photo attached to the account..thus an indicator of a potential bot network...Twitter disputed the number but never did state what they felt were the actual numbers

Suspected Russia-backed hackers target Baltic energy networks

(Reuters) - Suspected Russia-backed hackers have launched exploratory cyber attacks against the energy networks of the Baltic states, sources said, raising security concerns inside the West's main military alliance, NATO.
Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, all members of NATO and the European Union, are on the political front line of tensions between the West and Moscow. The Baltics are locked into Russia's power network but plan to synchronize their grids with the EU.
Interviews with more than a dozen law-enforcement and private investigators, insiders and utility officials show hackers have quietly made incursions into Baltic networks over the past two years, in parallel with more serious attacks in Ukraine that plunged swathes of that country into darkness.
They say Russian state organizations are suspected of being behind the campaigns.
Reuters could not independently verify the sources' allegations.
At the end of 2015, hackers attacked an Internet gateway used to control a Baltic electricity grid, disrupting operations but not causing blackouts, a source familiar with the matter said. He declined to give details due to ongoing private investigations into the incident, which has not been previously reported.
The attack was a distributed denial of service (DDoS), where Internet gateways are bombarded with large amounts of data, a blunt but sometimes effective technique in an age when energy networks are being modernized with digital technology.
The source also said suspected Russia-backed hackers had targeted a Baltic petrol-distribution system at around the same time in an unsuccessful denial of service attack that aimed to cause widespread disruption in petrol deliveries.
The system coordinates deliveries from storage tanks to a network of petrol stations, the source added.
In a separate malware attack on another undisclosed Baltic grid, also around end-2015, hackers targeted network communication devices, serial-to-ethernet converters (STEC), which link sub-stations to central control, two other sources said. The attack did not cause service disruption, they added.
Though these three incidents date back 18 months or so, cyber security consultants are still investigating some of them. They say hackers can remain dormant and undetected inside systems. In Ukraine, hackers had infiltrated the grids there for about six months before the lights went out in December 2015, consultants said.
STECs were also targeted in Ukraine by the so-called Sandworm team, a Russia-backed group that had attacked energy companies in Western Europe and the United States in a campaign in 2014, several sources said.
The two sources with knowledge of the STEC attacks said they had detected the presence of Sandworm in the Baltics, but they did not give evidence for their suspicion. One of them said Sandworm was still active in the Baltic states.
"It's the same kind of slander as all the other similar accusations," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked by Reuters about the possible hacks.
Russia has never cut power flows to the Baltic states or threatened to do so.

TESTING TIMES
The NATO sources and utility officials said the Baltic attacks raised concerns that hackers could disable the region's energy networks just as they had done in Ukraine, where government troops have been battling pro-Russian separatists since 2014.
The first Ukraine attack caused crippling blackouts in some parts of the country lasting several hours.
NATO and cyber security experts believe hackers are testing the Baltic energy networks for weaknesses, becoming familiar with how they are controlled in order to be able to shut them down at will.
"On a daily basis there are DDoS attacks designed to probe network architecture, so it could well be possible that something (serious) could take place later on," a Brussels-based NATO official said, requesting anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
Lithuanian grid operator Litgrid said attacks on IT systems and the grid were constant but it had not seen DDoS attacks.
Litgrid maintains constant monitoring and runs regular tests to detect any cyber break-ins as part of its network defenses, the utility said in an emailed statement.
Latvia's#grid operator,#AST,#said it had not seen incidents in the last year. Estonia's Elering said only that it had not seen any attacks at the time of the Ukraine incursions in 2015.
A security official based in the Baltics said cyber attacks usually increased when Russia carried out large military exercises near its borders with the Baltic states.
Last month, NATO helped stage a cyber-security exercise in Estonia in which hundreds of cyber experts from around the world competed in teams to protect a fictitious military air base from attacks on, among other things, a power grid system.
In its 2017 national security threat assessment, Lithuania said hackers had launched large-scale DDoS attacks in April last year against state ministries and institutions, Vilnius airport, media and "other important Lithuanian cyber infrastructure".
"A major part of executed cyber attacks against the state sector of Lithuania in 2016 were associated with Russian intelligence," the report said, without giving details.
Lithuania's state-owned energy holding group, Lietuvos Energija, said it had encountered untraceable attacks like zero-day viruses, among others, which exploit hidden vulnerabilities. Lietuvos's businesses include power distribution.
"We do assume that we have adversaries who want to harm us," said Liudas Alisauskas, information security chief at Lietuvos.
Lietuvos runs drills to prepare for cyber attacks, including switching to manual operation of the grid, Alisauskas said.
In Ukraine, operators of older and technologically simpler networks were able to send workers out into the field to manually bring grids back up. This would be more difficult to achieve in modern, digitized networks, cyber consultants said.

This is the fourth major Russian hack on European power grids....and who says there is no cyberwar ongoing????

The US power grid system is extremely exposed as many US companies have not invested much in securing their networks...it is almost as if they do not truly believe they could become targets...

This amazes me actually....anyone knowing the history of Kaspersky "detecting unknown malware" before other fully capable UAS companies has always raised questions...especially when that "malware" is tracked back to Russian crime gangs....

THEN Kaspersky has always stated they have no ties to Russian intel services...BUT any company doing any business in Russia especially Russian companies ALWAYS have ties in to Russian intel services....one of the recently arrested "Russian spies" was a major FSB cyber security type working in the Kaspersky Research Lab who was alleged to have worked for CIA.

Secondly, all end user pc's that have Kaspersky software installed always registers itself with the main servers located inside Russia which means all US pc data...MAC address, network location, network and IP addresses are part and parcel of the software registering process...ALL sitting on servers inside Russia.....

Kaspersky's argument of "we have no connections to Russian intel services" is like stating "water flows upstream".....

NOTE....
China has also a problem in that a majority of IOT produced hardware/firmware have been identified as having a major backdoor which allows IoT devices to be bundled into large bot nets...AND China has a history of also producing computers with hardware backdoors....all claimed to be "innocent engineering mistakes" but never really patched...

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. government investigation of President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, crossed the Atlantic earlier this year to the Mediterranean island nation of Cyprus, once known as a haven for money laundering by Russian billionaires.
Treasury agents in recent months obtained information connected to Manafort’s transactions from Cypriot authorities, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to speak publicly. The request was part of a federal anti-corruption probe into Manafort’s work in Eastern Europe. The Cyprus attorney general, one of the country’s top law enforcement officers, was also aware of the American request.
Manafort was Trump’s unpaid campaign chairman from March until August last year, during the critical run-up to the Republican National Convention. He’s been a leading focus of the U.S. investigation into whether Trump associates coordinated with Moscow to meddle in the 2016 presidential campaign.
Manafort, in a statement to the AP Thursday when asked about the Cyprus transactions, characterized them as a normal practice. “Like many companies doing business internationally, my company was paid via wire transfer, typically using clients’ preferred financial institutions and instructions,” he said.
Federal prosecutors became interested in Manafort’s activities years ago as part of a broad investigation to recover stolen Ukrainian assets after the ouster of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych there in early 2014. No U.S. criminal charges have been filed in the case.
It was not immediately clear what time period of Manafort’s transactions was covered under the request from the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. Manafort was known to route financial transactions through Cyprus, according to records of international wire transfers obtained by the AP and public court documents filed in a 2014 legal dispute in the Cayman Islands with Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska.
As part of their investigation, U.S. officials were expected to look into millions of dollars’ worth of wire transfers to Manafort. In one case, the AP found that a Manafort-linked company received a $1 million payment in October 2009 from a mysterious firm through the Bank of Cyprus. The $1 million left the account the same day — split in two, roughly $500,000 disbursements to accounts with no obvious owner.
There is nothing inherently illicit about using multiple companies as Manafort was doing. But it was unclear why he would have been involved with companies in Cyprus, known for its history of money laundering before joining the European Union, with unclear sources of the money flowing in to them and with such secrecy surrounding the firms’ connections to him.
With Cyprus’ entry into the European Union in 2004, the island was forced to put in place a host of stringent anti-money laundering regulations to avoid running afoul with the bloc’s own rules and incurring the wrath of other EU members. Cypriot banks, sticking to EU rules, took on heightened importance when Cyprus started using the Euro currency in 2008.
But the island’s allure as a friendly EU member brought a steady stream of Russian cash to fill Cypriot bank coffers, and rumors began to swirl again that it was fast becoming a major cash laundromat for Russian oligarchs, a charge that Cypriot authorities strenuously deny.
A Treasury Department spokesman, Stephen Hudak, declined to answer the AP’s questions about Manafort’s records, citing a policy never to confirm or deny an investigation’s existence.
Cypriot officials said further information would have to come to the agency through a formal request to the Cypriot Ministry of Justice and Public Order under a mutual legal assistance treaty. No request has been made, according to two officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the case.
This week, the AP revealed Manafort’s secret work for a Russian billionaire to advance the interests of Russian President Vladimir Putin a decade ago. Manafort did not dispute working for Oleg Deripaska but said he had represented him only in personal and business matters. He called the focus on him a “smear campaign,” and said he was ready to defend his work if investigators wish to learn more about it.
The White House said Trump had not been aware of Manafort’s work on behalf of Deripaska, a close Putin ally with whom Manafort, who is 67, eventually signed a $10 million annual contract beginning in 2006. “The president was not aware of Paul’s clients from the last decade,” said spokesman Sean Spicer. “What else don’t we know? I mean, where he went to school, what grades he got, who he played with in the sandbox?”
Spicer declined to comment Thursday on the information about the offshore financial transactions. On the topic of Manafort in general, he reiterated to reporters at the day’s press briefing: “You pull out a gentleman who was employed by someone for five months and talk about a client that he had 10 years ago.”
The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, known as FinCEN, was established in 1990 and became a Treasury Department bureau soon after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. It is part of an international network of so-called financial intelligence units that share information with each other in money laundering and terrorism financing investigations.

The ultimate goal of political warfare is to alter an opponent's opinions and actions in favour of one state's interests without utilizing military power. This type of organized persuasion or coercion also has the practical purpose of saving lives through eschewing the use of violence in order to further political goals. Thus, political warfare also involves "the art of heartening friends and disheartening enemies, of gaining help for one's cause and causing the abandonment of the enemies'".[5] Generally, political warfare is distinguished by its hostile intent and through potential escalation; but the loss of life is an accepted consequence.

Russian political warfare is driven and supported by the doctrine "non linear warfare" WHICH has inherently TWO key cornerstones......

MEANING IS Russia via Putin actually conducting a full blown political war against the US using all the available means of non linear warfare....

My immediate reaction to this event was that the US-funded fighters were in imminent danger of destruction and expulsion from Syria. The air-strike was intended to stop what was otherwise likely to be a victorious advance of the Syrian army. I suppose it was a red-line for the US. They weren't willing to see their so expensively trained recruits destroyed.

Experts suspect the involvement of a Russian state actor due to strategic interest of Russia in the states the are on the political front line between Russia and the West.

NATO members Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are members of the European Union plan to synchronize their grids with the EU.

“Suspected Russia-backed hackers have launched exploratory cyber attacks against the energy networks of the Baltic states, sources said, raising security concerns inside the West’s main military alliance, NATO.” reported the Reuters agency, “The Baltics are locked into Russia’s power network but plan to synchronize their grids with the EU.”

NATO experts and cyber security researchers believe hackers are testing the Baltic energy networks for weaknesses.

“On a daily basis there are DDoS attacks designed to probe network architecture, so it could well be possible that something (serious) could take place later on,” a Brussels-based NATO official said under a condition of anonymity.

The most clamorous attacks against the energy industry in East Europe was the ones that targeted the grids in Ukraine#that caused a power outage in specific areas of the country, anyway according to a number of experts, utility officials and law enforcement agencies#Baltic energy networks were targeted with an unceasing offensive over the past two years.

There is the conviction that Russian state-sponsored hackers powered these attacks.

According to the Reuters, at the end of 2015, hackers launched a DDoS cyber-attack on an Internet gateway used to control a Baltic electricity grid. The attack disrupted the operations but did not cause blackouts.

According to the same source,#alleged Russian hackers had launched a DDoS attack against a Baltic petrol-distribution system to disrupt petrol deliveries from storage tanks to a network of petrol stations.

The Reuters reported also a malware-based attack against a#Baltic grid.
“In a separate malware attack on another undisclosed Baltic grid, also around end-2015, hackers targeted network communication devices, serial-to-ethernet converters (STEC), which link sub-stations to central control, two other sources said. The attack did not cause service disruption, they added.” states the Reuters.

Security experts are still investigating the above incidents, we cannot exclude that hackers have compromised the critical infrastructure and are still undetected due to sophisticated TTPs.

STECs converters were also targeted in Ukraine by the
Russian#Sandworm#APT group, the same crew that targeted energy companies in Western Europe and the United States in a campaign in 2014.

According to the two sources cited by the Reuters, investigators had detected the presence of Sandworm in the Baltics, in one case was still active.
“It’s the same kind of slander as all the other similar accusations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked by Reuters about the possible hacks.

“Russia has never cut power flows to the Baltic states or threatened to do so.”
Lithuanian grid operator Litgrid#confirmed that cyber attacks on its systems are not a novelty but it added that it had not seen DDoS attacks.

Latvia’s#grid operator AST confirmed that no incident was observed in the last months.

“A security official based in the Baltics said cyber attacks usually increased when Russia carried out large military exercises near its borders with the Baltic states.” continues the Reuters.

In its 2017 national security threat assessment, the Lithuanian government reported large-scale DDoS attacks in April 2016 against state ministries and institutions, Vilnius airport, media and “other important Lithuanian cyber infrastructure”.

“A major part of executed cyber attacks against the state sector of Lithuania in 2016 were associated with Russian intelligence,” the report said.
Lithuania’s state-owned energy holding group, Lietuvos Energija, also confirmed that #it had faced sophisticated cyber attacks against its systems, including power distribution.

“We do assume that we have adversaries who want to harm us,” said Liudas Alisauskas, information security chief at Lietuvos.

On Saturday night, a user named kanuke7 posted a pastebin link into the largest Discord server for Trump supporters, Centipede Central.

BuzzFeed News has reached out to pastebin for comment.
The document appears to be incomplete, but it has guidelines for how to add to it. It also makes a point of attempting to identify the religious affiliation and sexual orientations of people listed.

It also comes with instructions on how to find and compile information on people. The process is called doxing.

BuzzFeed News was able to trace the origin of the document back to three threads on 4chan's /pol/ message board from April.

The 4chan threads are no longer live, but they are archived. It also appears that Twitter users tweeted out links to the threads while they were live.

The process 4chan users now have for identifying, doxing, and harassing activists they don't agree with became much more sophisticated following Shia LaBeouf's "He Will Not Divide Us" livestream.

Discord is essentially Slack, but for gamers. It also has audio functionality. The Centipede Central server was created by members of the /r/The_Donald subreddit. Trump supporters refer to themselves as centipedes, which is a reference to a YouTube series called “Can’t Stump The Trump" that mashed up footage of President Trump in a Republican debate with audio from a nature documentary about a centipede killing a tarantula.
The Discord server has close to 2,000 active users. BuzzFeed News has reached out to kanuke7 for comment.
The document posted by kanuke7 has since been removed, but according to a copy of it obtained by BuzzFeed News, it contains the names, addresses, phone numbers, and links to the social media accounts of thousands of people.

In terms of what's actually in the document. Many entries are completely fleshed out, with lengthy bios, home addresses, work addresses, phone numbers, and a full list of social media accounts

Is this how far Trump supporters will go? They’re so willing to divert attention from President Trump’s problems that they spread conspiracy theories?
Sean Hannity and Newt Gingrich are not low profile Republicans and two of Donald Trump’s biggest supporters. They’re covering the Seth Rich/Wikileaks conspiracy without any regard for Rich’s parents who have disavowed the “reports” and asked people to stop.
Dave Weigel at The Washington Post has an excellent piece detailing the story and how it turned into a yarn that should only reside on nutter sites like InfoWars:
On July 10, at 4:19 a.m., gunfire was detected in the District’s Bloomingdale neighborhood. Not five minutes later, police found Seth Rich, a 27-year-old Democratic National Committee staffer, lying on the ground, dying from a bullet wound to his back. A conscious Rich was transported to the hospital; by daybreak, he was dead.
Nearly one year later, Rich’s death remains one of America’s thousands of unsolved murders — and the focus of endless conspiracy theories, spread this past week by Fox News, alt-right social media, a local D.C. news station and the Russian embassy in Britain. The reemergence of the conspiracy theory this week, which did not lack for real news, revealed plenty about the fake news ecosystem (or to use BuzzFeed’s useful phrase, “the upside-down media”) in the Trump era. It also happened to cause untold pain for the Rich family, which has sent a cease-and-desist letter to the so-called private investigator who led this dive back into the fever swamp.
Here’s what we learned.
TV news can be an easy mark. This iteration of the Seth Rich story started when the District’s own Fox 5 ran a Monday night “exclusive,” citing one source — a Fox New legal commentator, Rod Wheeler — for a “big break in the investigation.” Reporter Marina Marraco reported that “conspiracy theories” could “be proven right,” as Wheeler was saying what had been rumored since last year: Rich might have leaked DNC emails to WikiLeaks, making him the target of an assassination.
“You have information that could link Seth Rich to WikiLeaks?” asked Marraco.
“Absolutely. Yeah. That’s confirmed,” said Wheeler, who Fox 5 identified as the Rich family’s investigator.
Within 24 hours, reporters at NBC News, CNN and The Washington Post had debunked the story. First, Rich’s family quickly corrected the idea that Wheeler was on their payroll; he was hired by Ed Butowsky, a Texas businessman who had grown interested in the case. Next, Wheeler told CNN he hadn’t actually obtained information linking Rich to WikiLeaks — Fox 5, he insisted, had told him to say so.
Marraco did not cite any sources except Wheeler — not the Rich family, not D.C. police, not the mayor’s office, not the DNC. Wheeler, a very occasional TV pundit, was noticeably skimpy on details, suggesting he had a source who’d told him eyeball-to-eyeball that Rich’s computer was in lock-up and that it had evidence of WikiLeaks contact. But he was murky on whether D.C. police or the FBI allegedly had the laptop, and the family quickly reported that neither did.
It is worth reading the article in its entirety since Weigel does a great job in detailing all of it and how “fake news” is still a problem among conservatives.
The story of Rich’s ties to Wikileaks was already debunked, and Rich’s parents pleaded with people not to spread the story. That didn’t stop Sean Hannity:
Thursday night, Sean Hannity again reported on the debunked conspiracy theory that DNC staffer Seth Rich was murdered over suspected ties to Wikileaks.
The new report comes just days after a Rich family spokesperson condemned those reporting on the killing for “manipulat[ing] the legacy of a murder victim in order to forward their own political agenda.”
“There is a special place in hell for people” who report on the story in that manner, the spokesman said.
In his segment Thursday, Hannity questioned the story of the Washington Metro Police Department, that Rich was the victim of a robbery attempt gone sideways.
“Does it make sense you shoot somebody in the back and the whole narrative has been they’ve been investigating a robbery.” Hannity said. “But they didn’t take the wallet, they didn’t take the necklace, they didn’t take the phone, and they didn’t take the watch? Does that sound like a robbery to you? Because it doesn’t sound at all like a robbery to me.”
It only got worse when Newt Gingrich went on Fox and Friends to spread the same nonsense:
Former House speaker Newt Gingrich, a stalwart supporter of President Trump, used a Sunday-morning appearance on “Fox and Friends” to spread the conspiracy theory that former Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was killed last year to cover up the true story of how WikiLeaks obtained tens of thousands of hacked Democratic Party emails.
“We have this very strange story now of this young man who worked for the Democratic National Committee, who apparently was assassinated at 4 in the morning, having given WikiLeaks something like 53,000 emails and 17,000 attachments,” Gingrich said.
“Nobody’s investigating that, and what does that tell you about what’s going on? Because it turns out, it wasn’t the Russians. It was this young guy who, I suspect, was disgusted by the corruption of the Democratic National Committee. He’s been killed, and apparently nothing serious has been done to investigative his murder. So I’d like to see how [Robert S.] Mueller [III] is going to define what his assignment is.”
The former Speaker of The House of Representatives wants special counsel Robert Mueller to investigate a false story.
I suppose when a birther is elected President, anything goes, right?
It’s one level of pathetic for Sean Hannity to cover the story. His slavish devotion to Donald Trump is nauseating but it’s even worse watching Newt Gingrich descend to such depths.
Gingrich, as noted was the Speaker of the House for five years. In 2012 he was a legitimate candidate running for the GOP presidential nomination. It is telling that Fox News executives allow this story to be promulgated. Fox News suffered a hit in the ratings since Bill O’Reilly let go. I suppose allowing a garbage story like this is their way of recovering some of it but it’s nothing more than increased degradation#of their credibility.
Count me out.

The hashtag '#SethRich' is definitely getting a boost from some bots this morning...

It looks like around 7am, the hashtag was picked up by enough non-bot users to start to blend in more organically.

So when people claim that '#SethRich' is being "censored": It's not the topic that triggered it. It's the bots.

Even in Australia it's getting a boost from trump supporters

ShadowBrokers, the hacking outfit that uncovered the EternalBlue windows exploit behind WannaCry, claim to be in possession of ‘75% of the NSA’s arsenal’ and will start to release it in June.

WannaCry is still causing chaos across businesses and government agencies in 150 countries across the globe, although it is now losing momentum.
After spending May ‘feeling guilty’ about WannaCry’s devastation, which included operating theatres having to reschedule vital surgeries in the UK, ShadowBrokers are gearing up to release fresh NSA tools that cover web browsers, routers, smartphones, data from the international money transfer network Swift and “compromised network data from Russian, Chinese, Iranian, or North Korean nukes and missile programs”.
The standard of English on the group’s Medium and Steemit pages is very poor, sometimes bordering on illegible. However, the group have never failed on any of their claims.
The Microsoft 10 operating system is specifically mentioned as being the victim of one exploit, suggesting that the Microsoft security patching team are in for a rough time once again, and that the Cold War brewing between Microsoft and the NSA is set to be amplified further.
Many individuals, including NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, believe based on contextual evidence that ShadowBrokers are linked to the Kremlin. Ultimately, no one has brought to light any hard evidence from the group’s methods or digital footprint to prove that this is the case.
Another theory claims that ShadowBrokers have a source within the NSA’s Tailored Access Operations team, and that the NSA was never even hacked. Some NSA data obtained the ShadowBrokers was reportedly stored on a physically segregated network that was not attached to the internet, making it impossible to access via remote hacking.
The NSA have so far refused to comment on the new breach in their trove of cyber weapons.

There is in fact an ongoing war between Shadowbrokers and The Equation Group....

Some are alluding to the NKs as being involved if in fact reports indicating a potential NSA hack on NK missile production did in fact occur....
