In case you missed this pointer (http://council.smallwarsjournal.com/faq.php?faq=small_wars_council_faq#faq_history), here's a quick run-down on what we discuss here.

Borrowing a definition from historical fiction, history on SWC can loosely be defined as things that happened at least 25 years ago. This gives us room to discuss things like Vietnam while leaving more current matters to their proper forums. We're also looking at the evolution of ideas, be it COIN as practiced by the Romans or the development of riflemen and scouts during the Napoleonic Wars.

Our main focus is small wars, but the practice of "big wars" often transfers (correctly or incorrectly) into small wars. We're here to discuss the whole package; good, bad, and downright ugly.

Article Links: Many of us like to post or link to outside articles. That's fine, but remember to post only a short excerpt (no more than a couple of paragraphs...less is more here!) of the article and then use the link function to link to the full article at its original web location. The link button is located in the posting control panel (it looks like two links of chain placed over a globe). If you don't do this the mods will correct your post.

As part of a tidying up process nearly all pre-2014 threads have been closed. If you want a thread re-opened please send a PM or post a new thread. Only a very few have been merged.
