Reuters - U.S. aid official linked to call-girl ring resigns (http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N27419813.htm)

WASHINGTON, April 27 (Reuters) - A senior State Department official in charge of foreign aid who had used an escort service owned by a woman charged with running a prostitution operation abruptly resigned on Friday, ABC News reported.

Randall Tobias, a deputy secretary of state and the first head of U.S. foreign assistance and administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice "that he must step down" for personal reasons, the State Department said in an announcement.

Amazing.

Jon,
Thanks for the funniest I've read in a while :D

But ABC News reported that Tobias, whose resignation was effective immediately, said he had called an escort service several times "to have gals come over the condo to give me a massage."

Tobias, 65, who is married, said there had been no sex, and that recently he had been using another service "with Central Americans" to provide massages

Well pal, there will soon be sex with the USG

This is not funny to me.

The USAID has a significant role to play in Iraq, Afghanistan, and a number of other countries but the agency's leader has been off doing who knows what with who knows who.

We know the US military owns the night and now we know who owns, or atleast rents, the ladies of the night.

…but that’s it.

He got caught and he’s been up to something for some time now. My experience with USAID squandering resources in Sub-Sahara and in Estonia leaving most of us hamstrung, has not been impressive.

We were long overdue for an executive overhaul.

Former Deputy Secretary of State Tobias’ 2003 position as the POTUS’ AID’s czar (with Ambassadorial rank) and coincident past executive status with Eli Lilly pharmaceutical products still makes me wonder. AIDS advocacy organizations had stated 'they did not oppose his Senate confirmation because they know so little about him’.

That really gives me the warm fuzzies !

Strange (no, no longer funny), all the medications donated to Estonian hospitals following Tobias’ position as AIDs czar come from Eli Lilly and associates.

You’re both correct...just sad now comes to mind.

Regards, Stan

Was he doing this when he was supposed to be on duty?

The Beltway is rife with this sort of silliness, and I mean rife. I've interned with a couple of lobbying bodies in my undergrad years, and some of the second-hand pillow talk I heard was mind-boggling.

Makes me think of Tom Cruise (that short goofball guy) and Eyes Wide Shut.

Gives new meaning to the phrase "Massaging the 'F' process" around here.
