Thought this might be of interest.
Event date: 10 June 08
Event end date: 11 June 08
Location: DCMT Shrivenham
Background
Any military operation involves people - lots of them. And more often than not the people come from different backgrounds. A commander has to interact with the different groups under his or her command, allies, neutrals, locals caught up in the operation and, of course the enemy, all of them distinctive in some way. In an counter-insurgency campaign the picture is further clouded by having to engage closely with local people for extended periods, and often there is superficially no means to tell the locals from the enemy. All this means that the commander needs understanding - understanding of the influences that impact on the behaviour of all these people. One of the significant influences is culture.

Should be a good symposium.
