Can anyone recommend a work on bankers of Renaissance Venice?

Given the laws/policies of the era, they were undoubtedly involved in the finance of land and maritime military ventures. What I'm really looking for is any discussion of how they assessed risk before investing.

Normally, I'd figure this is just to obscure, but with this crowd...

It may help , may not but the assigned text book for my current class, “ Spies, Saboteurs and Secret Agents” has a chapter on Venice and its intel community – talks a bit about banking.

The book is called, , The Puppet Masters (London 2004). Bu John Hughes-Wilson
