Badly Wounded Iraq War Vet Cast in Soap Opera

Hope this isn't out of place. But I found it interesting.

All My Children was looking for someone to play the love interest of a female doctor on the show. The character was supposed to be a badly wounded Iraq War vet, and they ended up casting J.R. Martinez, who suffered severe burns over 40% of his body in an explosion in Iraq.
