The Combined Arms Center is pleased to announce the winners of the 2006 Commander's Special Topics Writing Competition: "Countering Insurgency" as follows:
1st Place - "Producing Victory: Rethinking Conventional Forces in Counterinsurgency Operations," by LTC Colonel Douglas A. Ollivant and 1LT Eric D. Chewning - $1,000
2d Place - "Unit Immersion in Mosul: A Tactical Case Study for Establishing Stability in Transition," by Major Paul T. Stanton - $500
3d Place - "CounterinsurgencyIntelligence in a 'Long War': Learning Lessons from the British Experience in Northern Ireland," by Brian J. Jackson - $250
4th Place - "The Paradox of Logistics in Insurgencies and Counterinsurgencies," by Lieutenant Colonel Marian E. Vlasak - $250
This year, 70 manuscripts were received in response to announcement of the 2006 Commander's Special Topics Writing Contest: "Countering Insurgency."
The winning manuscripts will be published in upcoming editions of Military Review, The Professional Journal of the U.S. Army.
Authors of the other 66 articles - The Small Wars Journal (http://www.smallwarsjournal.com/site/submit.htm) would be honored to consider your work for our magazine!
