Don't know if this is the right spot or if Request for Information is the right spot to post this but has anybody read Robert Asprey's "War in the Shadows: The Guerrilla in History"? It's a two volume set that, from the dust cover at the used book store where I saw it, discusses the various guerrilla leaders (Che, Castro, Ho, etc.) and speaks of guerrilla warfare throughout history. Before I plunk down the $24 to buy it I was wondering if it is even worthwhile to 1) purchase it and 2) read it. Any help with this would be much appreciated from the esteemed members of this board.

I bought the two volume set in 1978 (or 1979?) and found it very useful as a brand new 2nd Lt who knew little about guerrilla warfare.

Asprey covers a lot of ground - so there is no one detailed account of any particular war - rather a running history of guerrilla warfare from 512 BC to Vietnam. As an encyclopedic reference source I highly recommend it.

That said, it has been 25 years since I last read the books so my memory is not all that great on detail....

It is an excellent reference work . I understand that the author revised it several years ago and I would like to replace my battered volumes with this revision .

Thanks for the recommendation. It seems it will be worth it to purchase it. I'll have to see if it's the revised version or not.
