Foreign Affairs has an extensive discussion of Afghanistan with Stephen Biddle... not earth shaking but interesting, if only as an indicator of how the foreign policy mainstream perceives the situation:

I appreciate Biddle's comments about the timelines involved, like a full fighting cycle. The fighting is seasonal because poppy cultivation is seasonal.
