Interesting lecture by Professor Paul Kennedy, "The Nuts and Bolts of Empire", given a week or so back at LSE. He looks at the the logistics and physical infrastructures of the Roman, Spanish, and British Empires, and closes with some thoughts on the U.S.'s present position. Well worth listening to:
