After several attempts to get the HOA loaded I finally finished the section this morning.

Card Game - Mad Match
Still not sure what the benefits of this card game are. Doesn't seem to help other than a memory game.
Suspect Search
Traveling through Africa searching for a suspect. Sort of a means of identifying countries along the horn. Took me 19 out of 34 permitted hours to find the suspect. By choosing individual clues to assist in the search (each clue worth so many hours and minutes). Best to select the clues with the least amount of time required. Use the log notebook to keep up with your clues to preclude looking again and loosing more time.
Quiz Time
minus 3 points on some geographical questions :o
Introduction to Comoros
Did OK on the quiz despite never learning much about the Islands before today.
A quick read and good info on weather :wry:
Economic Structure and Perspectives got more intense. Although, things such as holding hands and eye contact differ greatly in the DRC from say the HoA.
Blew question 4 on the exam when asked "What should you do if offered food and drink?" Correct response was "accept it and try it".
I decided to politely decline and live another day :o But then, if you ever had the pleasure of food poisoning in Africa with no medical services, you'd understand me a smiggin better
The next modules concentrate more on job-specific issues
Okay, I'm done with it for now. It was an underwhelming experience:wry:.
Moved onto my last lesson Security Cooperation - Partner Military Training (senior)
Could not connect to the server regardless of which browser I used so stuck with Firefox. My progress was not saved and this created some lag and subsequent lessons would not automatically load. I literally logged off and restarted the entire lesson to go to the next episode.
Sound problems with as much as a 5 second delay
Episode One inside the tent
Far too short to gain anything and nearly an unlikely scenario in Sub-Sahara.
Episode Two in the armory
Too much emphasis on chit chatting prior to getting into real conversation
Lesson questions are too short and repetitive
Episode Three at the firing range
Spending too much time on perspectives and worried about the guy’s feelings in a potentially hazardous setting. Didn’t get anything out of the episode.
Intend to complete the Post-Course Assessment Survey as I have a day job too ;)
I submitted my post evaluation, but not sure if it actually went somewhere.
Sadly, I'm out of time and hope that the modules I completed together with
my notes are of use.
Overall I think we are not ready to deploy this to the general public. The level
of information was short of my expectations and I am not sure I learned
much. As a former US Army Senior Instructor with more than a decade in
Africa, I don't think I would use this to prepare my future subordinates.
Hi Stan,
I would have to agree with you. While I've never been an Army Instructor, I think that there is a close enough knowledge / culture analog with teaching first year students at university, and I wouldn't recommend the VCAT for them. Personally, and this is thinking back on it after seeing some of the other tools coming out, I would say that VCAT is 6 - 12 months from any acceptance trials which could hope for a positive outcome.
Then again, given your experience and mine as being (I think) the only Anthropologist in the trials, I expect our AARs will get buried :wry:. Hey, I may be a Romantic, but I'm a pessimistic one :D.
Hey Marc,
Enjoyed your articles on TRADOC (really) !
Now that would be a shame considering the "coaxing" I received to test the VCAT. Haven't heard from Paul lately and generally curious what the overall outcome will be.
David and Ron,
Have you folks completed the VCAT ?
Regards, Stan
Stan,
No I put VCAT back on the list of tasks and reading the critiques decided not for me. More on a PM that explains.
