We did discuss the great economic dependence of Crimea on the lifelines coming down from the north.
Agriculture has already been hard hit by the disputes about water supply. Obviously a lack of electricity wouldn't exactly help the dire economic situation on the penisula. Not that Ukraine's economy is doing well or Russia's for that matter....

Check the current German utility rates that the individual energy firms are charged when they purchase it on the open energy markets---be sure to notice the difference from energy generated by the old means oil, gas, coal vs eco generated.Quote:

BTW---Russia is charging the Ukraine on electricity flowing from them to the Ukraine an average of 11.8 cents per kw--the cheap rate of 5 cent was negotiated before the annexation of Crimea---what is causing heartburn is that the power contract was rewritten on demands by Russia that in fact is a de facto recognition of the Crimea annexation---meaning the Crimea is referred to as the Crimea of the Russian Federation.

Does Putin seriously think that the Tartars will back down--truck traffic has been restricted, power cuts are easy to do and what about the key bridges into Crimea --they are not attackable........virtually every Tartar Ukrainian activist that has "disappeared since the takeover by Russia has "disappeared" and never found again---we are back to the NKVD days of Stalin inside Crimea...
Actually this development is interesting in that many Ukrainians on the whole feel the current government has done nothing to recover Crimea and this is an easy pressure point on the Russians......they will never risk a full war over power lines now that they are basically fighting a two front war.
What is equally interesting is that Russia thinks they can fight a two front war--even the US would have had a hard time years ago.

Ukrainian President has now realized the depth of the current Ukrainian civil society dislike of his doing nothing to regain the Crimea.....and actually it is an interesting question...can in fact the Ukraine blockade Crimea similar to what they have done in eastern Ukraine and legally be within their rights as the annexation of Crimea was an illegal international law move by Putin.
Poroshenko has also not yet filed damage claims with the IHRC/international court in Sweden for eastern Ukraine and the Crimea which can amount to literally billions of USDs and which based on the Kuwait decisions the Ukraine can takeover any Russian asset outside of Russia to repay the claims against them.
Not exactly sure why he has been dragging his feet on the claims.

Actually with the Russian announced blockade of all Ukrainian products on 1 Jan 2016 as a response to the EU Association Agreement going into effect---this might in fact been unintended consequences by the Russians on the part of that Russian embargo move.
Anyway its an excellent leverage that the Ukraine has now and it will be legal based on the stated actions by Russia--they might regret having openly stated their embargo intentions.
