Great recon Rifleman ! You had another post about a suggestion for sniper/recce units to "lighten" conventional infantry .
I have read a bit about the forming of light infantry /skirmishers to screen the line infantry . John Moore in the Peninsula I know about from Jac Weller .

This has always been an interesting trend in infantry; one that's often tied closely to technology and the level of trust commanders had in their footslogging subordinates. The development of Jager infantry in Prussia was closely related to the latter consideration, while expansion of some of the sharpshooter/skirmisher units in the Civil War was more linked to the former.
