I can't speak for the military as a whole but there are a lot of us in my organization who like the fore grips for CQC. It is isn't intended to give you any advantages at longer ranges, just a...

The figure that was always quoted to us all through my time in the infantry was 30% of the soldier's body weight was the max that a soldier should carry. That means that someone like me at 170...

I am assuming that you are referring to the defense. We have never had an indirect fire role for our machine guns, unless that is just a different term for plunging fire but even that is not a role....

My question would be, why do you need 180 rounds down range in three seconds? If they are disciplined then we can presume that even with the stress levels way up they can shoot well enough to get...

Something like that. The machine guns allow us to put a lot of rounds down range quickly which allows us to gain and maintain fire superiority. Now that concept has been drilled into me since I was...

My intent was not to describe our entire TTP for assaulting a bunker system. I was simply using this particular drill to demonstrate how safety concerns had changed how we train. Of course we use...

Speaking of Knock Out a Bunker drills

I can't speak to how the Marines have done this drill but this does illustrate a problem we developed in the infantry in the Army. When I first came into the infantry in '95 the drill went something...

...On a few of the topics here.

M203

I have carried both the M203 and the M79 and I have to say that I absolutely prefer the M79. I can understand the convenience and speed factors for having...

I think that the issue of adding more members to each team (which I favor) or adding more teams to the squad is separate issue from the one I was addressing. No matter how many men you have in your...

I'm not sure that any problems that the Italians had in WWII were due to their tactics so much as their general lack of competence. The tactic has generally worked well for me when properly executed...

Arguments about ideal squad size aside, I always liked having two LMGs per squad for the simple fact that it gave me one LMG for each of my maneuver elements. Whichever of them made contact first...

Based on my experience, I firmly believe that a belt fed machine gun is needed at the fore team level, although I personally don't like the SAW. A magazine fed weapon could never be a substitute for...
