At 72, Camacho, a retired Army captain and retired El Paso postal service worker, has published "Isaac Camacho: An American Hero."

The memoir describes his work detail, a bout with malaria, his mostly rice diet and constant execution threats as a prisoner of the Viet Cong. He was caged in a bamboo hut, shackled in the jungle for 21 months.
