    Default In-Helmet Social Networking?

Saw this post on Danger Room:

Some interesting concepts... takes reachback to a whole new level.

I am sure my friends in Comm... sorry Cyber now - would be pretty happy to have to provide the additional bandwith.

Still, it seems like this might be one way to leverage all the intel folks that have been in the news lately - especially if the specialists back home were dedicated to a small area that also had a dedicated military unit (or units). This could provide a lot of continuity...

Even assuming away the bandwidth/capacity issues, I think the penultimate paragraph pretty much sums this up...

It’s doubtful whether all (or even most) of these ideas will become military doctrine. And some of Scales’ tech suggestions seem just as brittle, and just as prone to cause strategic interference in tactical affairs, as the systems he criticizes today.
Like George Lucas, Scales has become that which he once fought against...especially when he so casually dismisses leadership as a key factor in what keeps soldiers effective. Regardless of the reachback systems that might be in place now or then, the system that most needs development and maintenance remains the soldier him/herself...maybe the core change by 2025 is that we finally shed the mentality by which we think a soldier can be created in months and accept that an effective soldier may only truly become effective around the ten year mark i.e. when there is the optimal blend of physical performance, training and experience....
