Default Is the UN ready for Interstellar Diplomacy?

Golly willikers, if the UN is taking this seriously...

UN 'to appoint space ambassador to greet alien visitors'

A space ambassador could be appointed by the United Nations to act as the first point of contact for aliens trying to communicate with Earth.

"Coincidentally", this article appeared within 24 hours of the other -paging Gary McKinnon, Gary McKinnon* to the white courtesy phone, please

Aliens have deactivated British and US nuclear missiles, say US military pilots

Aliens have landed, infiltrated British nuclear missile sites and deactivated the weapons, according to US military pilots.

Perhaps we should explore how the entire species can react as the underdogs on this planet. Or, as Will Smith said, "welcome to Eurf!"

Personally, I think the Zombie menace is a much more clear and present danger, so the UN should prioritize that first.

And what if the ET's are actually creating the zombies?

If the UN is in charge of the greeting party, it'll wind up like this -

Whether you call them the Empire ala Star Wars, the Klingons from Star Trek, or the Alliance from Serenity (Firefly), never trust a collective like the UN....

It's a hoax; a hoax which played expertly on the world government scare of U.S.Americans.

Moving past the stereotyping, the backpeddling/whitewash has already begun -

    Hmm...and yet

    Four panel debates include

Calling ET, or not even answering the phone?

Societal questions raised by the detection of extra-terrestrial life

What could studies of extra-terrestrial life tell us about the future of humanity?

Extra-terrestrial life and arising political issues for the UN agenda

note that Dr. Mazlan Othman is scheduled to participate.

Pssshhh, the joke is on you guys because the US has had diplomatic relations with Extra-Terrestrials since at least the early 1960’s.

Former Senator John Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth, and our first Ambassador to the Extra-Terrestrials in 1962. Senator Glenn was sent back up into space in 1998 on STS-95; the cover was that NASA wanted to study the effects of space on the elderly, but really it was for a summit meeting with the ET's.

Last I heard was that relations with the ET's had gotten a bit chilly; they had invested heavily in subprime mortgage backed securities ("it's rated AAA, I swear!"), and really didn't like the series finale of Lost.

    Laugh now, Humans.

China's state-run People's Daily reported Sept. 13 (in its "Life & Culture" section) that air traffic controllers "observed with instruments" a UFO about 20 miles from Baotou, the largest city in Inner Mongolia, about 8 p.m. on Sept. 11.

UFOs over China are becoming almost routine. Last month's report was the ninth in three months, with at least eight sightings reported in several provinces between late June and late July.
