Default Defending Taiwan (Republic of China)

Taiwan’s homegrown missiles point to an evolving defense doctrine

    Entry Excerpt:

Summary: Taiwan is increasingly a designer and producer of its own battlefield, anti-ship, and long-range land attack missiles. This commitment to the expense of homegrown missiles shows that Taiwan is not confident that the United States will supply it with what it needs for its defense. Taiwan is also attempting to have its missiles perform the missions previously performed by fighter-attack aircraft; in the face of the mainland’s enormous missile superiority, Taiwan will likely abandon fixed-wing aircraft. Eventually, Taiwan may have to adopt a decentralized, low-tech “insurgency” defense doctrine. But it is doubtful whether such a doctrine is a good match for modern Taiwan.

I am sure that there are posts on defending Taiwan, but only these two SWJ Blog posts were found. So they have been merged and renamed. The thread has been opened too.

Default Another way of defending Taiwan - Teheran's?

Hat tip to WoTR for this article:https://warontherocks.com/2017/04/fo...etric-defense/

I thought worthy of including as it cites the possible impact of Iran's approach in an unexpected place.

Taiwan will simulate taking on an invading force in war games next week amid its increasing tensions with China.
Taipei will conduct exercises in which it will repair a major air base and use civilian operated drones, Reuters reported.
The annual Han Kuang drills, which start on April 30, make no mention of China, only “offensive forces invading Taiwan” and will include a live-fire field training exercise and “enemy elimination on beaches.”

BEIJING/MBABANE (Reuters) - Taiwan's last diplomatic ally in Africa, the Kingdom of eSwatini, said on Wednesday it had no intention of switching ties to China, after a Chinese diplomat said he expected it to ditch Taipei soon amid a bitter diplomatic dispute.

Taiwan, which China claims as a wayward province with no right to state-to-state relations, now has formal ties with only 17 countries, almost all small, less developed nations in Central America and the Pacific, like Belize and Nauru.

It lost its latest ally, El Salvador, on Tuesday, the third country to fall to China this year. Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has vowed to fight China's "increasingly out of control" behavior after the move.

Default A new defence concept for Taiwan

This time an article from WoTR, which near the start refers to:
In the face of such overwhelming odds, however, Taiwan’s military has not given up. In fact, they’ve greatly improved their chances for survival. Last year, Taiwan’s Chief of the General Staff, Adm. Lee Hsi-ming quietly proposed a revolutionary new approach to Taiwan’s defense, called the Overall Defense Concept. This new concept, if effectively implemented, could turn the tables and give Taiwan a fighting chance of preventing China from being able to take it by force.
