    Default SWC Motto and Coin

I am exploring the options available in producing a Small Wars Council coin. One idea I am toying with right now is inscribing a motto for the Council (in Latin) on the coin. Here are several I’ve been thinking about – let me know what you think and by all means post alternatives.

If there is enough interest here I’ll narrow down the choices to the top two and post a ‘vote-off’. I am also requesting any information you might have on quality (and reasonably priced) coins – who makes good stuff and does not charge an arm and a leg. Thanks...

I'll check and see where the AFROTC Det I work for got their coins. They charge $6 each and they're of pretty good quality. They got them about a year before I took over the civilian side, otherwise I'd have the answer at my fingertips.

Correction - the Det charges $6 per coin. Still...they can't really do it to make a profit.

If any of the members are in Korea, they would be able to get coins dirt cheap in Itaewon...

How about, "Do you know what assume really means?"

Seriously, I favor the history logo...big surprise, I know.

    Default Love slapout's

I think the "Boots on the ground..." quote would be an excellent choice, even if a penchant for Latin means it would need to be translated.

    Default Have the Latin covered

My roommate from college teaches Latin at a private high school. He was kind enough to translate "B is a good grade" for my Command & Staff conference group's logo. He works for beer. Fortunately, I have some.

So the message, not the Latin, is the key.

Love Slapout's BOG and the history one.... If only we were talking about a giant rodeo belt buckle and could have it all.

    Default Maybe we can

If it was printed around the circumference of the coin, it might fit?

Default It could be doen around the circumference

My first unit coin had the motto: "When it was too hard for others" inscribed around the edge. A slightly longer inscription is not a hard feat.

    Default Ovid Quote

Having reviewed the work done here I keep thinking that a quote from Ovid "It is good to learn, even from one's enemies" would be a good fit for a coin motto.

We review our actions, and the actions of our enemy to develope new tactics and techniques to accomplish our mission. So learning from our own experiences / actions AND those of our foes seems to be the focus of the SWC.

    Default Great Response...

We are moving on the coin (lower case;-). Will let this thread linger for about one more week then post a "top two" poll for the final motto. Thanks again for the response...
