    Default Wardak Province Mystery

    Anyone know anything more about three American Army National Guardsmen "tortured, killed, and mutilated"?

    From p. 210, on the Battle of Wanat AAR;

    In the second week of July, CJTF Commander Schloesser and his staff were managing a number of large scale operations and crises including a major offensive operation in the Tangi Valley of Wardak Province where Coalition forces were actively seeking insurgent groups that had tortured, killed, and mutilated three American Army National Guardsmen.

    I haven't seen anything on this in the Main Stream Media, yet there it is on p.210.

    Closest profiles I could find from the casualty lists are these guys;

    Sgt. 1st Class Matthew L. Hilton 37 Company F, 425th Infantry Regiment, Michigan Army National Guard Livonia, Michigan One of three soldiers killed when their convoy encountered roadside bombs, small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades near Forward Operating Base Shank, Afghanistan, on June 26, 2008
    Sgt. 1st Class Joseph A. McKay 51 B Troop, 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry Regiment, New York Army National Guard Brooklyn, New York One of three soldiers killed when their convoy encountered roadside bombs, small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades near Forward Operating Base Shank, Afghanistan, on June 26, 2008
    Spc. Mark C. Palmateer 38 B Troop, 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry Regiment, New York Army National Guard Poughkeepsie, New York One of three soldiers killed when their convoy encountered roadside bombs, small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades near Forward Operating Base Shank, Afghanistan, on June 26, 2008

    FOB Shank was located in the Logar Province (east of Wardak).

    So.

    What gives?

    Default Capt Roger Hill Case

    This may be a referral to the Dog Company Case. These folks were stationed in Wardak Province. Capt Hill, the comany commander, fell afowl of the 96 hour rule. After taking casualites, the Capt went to the local market to buy back the fingers of US Army soldiers, and then took the initiative to stop this. He ran a deception plan, discovered that his Afghan soldiers were calling the bad guys passing info of where and when the troops would be located. After pleading to his BN CO for 80+ hours for interrogators, he took matters into his own hands. He and his 1st Sgt ran a ruse during the interrogation. His the the only case I know of that a soldier was charged under the UCMJ with a war crime.
