When asked what his team's mission set was--- one of the items listed was surveillance of what he called “resistance fighters”—means to me the Russia GRU is maintaining a far tighter control over them than the West seems to think—loose cannons are not definitely not being allowed.
If this is true then Russia has a far deeper and more solid control over the mercenaries than they “claim” they have when the Russian FM Lavrov states ”we will see if they listen to us when Kerry was in Sochi”—it seems that if they do not listen then “ambush” is the immediate answer via the Spetsnaz.
During some of the really heavy fighting there were social media comments coming out of eastern Ukraine about so called “blocking forces”—Russian Army troops that (types never were defined) were positioned behind the attacking mercenaries --—if they ran-- then these “blocking forces” much as did the NKVD troops in WW2 –shot the fleeing troops.
There were a number of such comments but no real evidence of this but where there is smoke the truth is not far away.
The timeframe of the reports was when Debaltseve was under heavy attack when Putin was in Budapest where he crowed during a press conference that "miners and tuck drivers" had beaten the UA and had taken Debaltseve yet it did not fall for another three days.

Ukrainian guerrilla unit "Shadows" has reported the following and there is some indication it is verified as true.
If verified then it is further prove the Ukrainian guerrilla war is starting to gain traction as this unit has actually even ambushed and killed two Russian Generals on the GRU side. Which by the way the Russians are always quick to deny if such a report surfaces—that time it was utter silence.
The attack was professionally and quickly carried out as if a true SOF team had done it and Shadows is made up to a degree of former Ukrainian SOF/Alpha types.
