An excellent "long read" in The Guardian, on Sara Khan, an activist against extremism, who whilst the darling of officialdom and the media faces criticism from some on the "Left" and some Muslims.

The sub-title says it all:

Sara Khan is determined to protect young Muslim women from the lure of extremism – but has her vocal support for the government’s anti-radicalisation strategy alienated the very people she hopes to save?

...Khan’s argument has been subtly different: identify yourselves as women first, then as Muslims; understand that you are being manipulated by men who are using your faith to spirit you from your families and communities and into danger. Her letter attempted to divert the rage of the young women who had fallen under the sway of Isis’s army of online recruiters away from perceived intrusion and harassment by British government agencies, and towards the men who were attempting to enlist them as martyrs and sex slaves.

Interesting insight into her religion having worn in a burqa as a teenager and decided to reject it.

Reading this one wonders whether her example deters others from being activists and so the UK government's rhetoric of a Muslim "silent majority" is fulfilled.
