What the heck does this mean when Assad is a proven genocidal dictator and can in fact be charged for war crimes in his use of chemical weapons on his own population, drops barrel bombs and uses starvation.

THIS was a total miscalculation on the part of Putin and his GRU targeteers........and actually hardened the Saudi's into their decision to go for it with or without the US.....

If one filters out the color coded lines....an interesting number of profiles start confirming a lot of what is being posted here...I think not! Via Charles Lister on Twitter.
The anti Assad opposition is largely and still remains Syrian with little to no jihadist influence...contrary to what is being said in the Obama WH....
Then look at the JaN (AQ) lines they are focused also largely on Assad and his transnational shia jihadi's......and surprisingly they attack IS as much as FSA does.
But then take a look at who the "transnational shia jihadists" are attacking.
Interesting points not included on the left side of the chart are Russia and Iran....and I am not sure exactly why there is a (JaN) AQ line to the USAF as they have been dodging US and Russian bombs as frequently as has FSA even during their led attacks on IS front linesand one might conclude they are just defending themselves.
Also reference the USAF and US led coalition...who are they targeting?...as suddenly in the past days both the USAF and the RuAF were providing CAS to the YPG as they fought FSA.

This is now the near perfect storm that the Obama WH has created themselves by never really wanting to create a long term US strategic vison for their FP in both the ME and Europe.......that even considers the use of force if necessary to accomplish their "soft power goals"....

When the YPG retook Kobane it was with massive USAF CAS AND a very strong contingent from FSA....and NOW they are attacking FSA with Russian CAS and next to Hezbollah.....
AND their agenda is not....an independent Kurdish state at the cost to FSA and the Syrians
