Groups include Jabhat al Nusra, Sunna Army, FSA Division 13 and Ahrar al-Sham.

Jabhat al-Nusra use two BMPs and one tank in storming Zitan village was held by Iran militias south Aleppo.

Rebels - from moderte to islamist and especially in the north - probably never had as much foreign support as today.
Russia pulled all in.
IMHO......
Looking at the rebels in the offensive this week strengthens my feeling that Russia's intervention spelled Assad's end and is absolutely the opposite of what Putin envisioned his military adventure would achieve.....
He totally miscalculated the resilience of the opposition to Assad even in the face of a massive air bombardment....thoroughly caused by his belief in his own propaganda ie "his altered state of reality"....
This time the Russian Chechen tactic of attacking the civil society in a brutal fashion actually strengthened the opposition......
WHY do I say this?.......yesterday a single photo summed up this current opposition offensive and it crosses the entire spectrum of moderates to JaN and their groups.....even JaN has mellowed a tad and sees cooperation as the way forward if they are going to achieve the tossing out of Assad and the Shia mercenaries.....
This photo showed a group of FSA storming over a high berm and attacking IS..all were wearing the same uniforms and helmet's but one in the middle of the attack column was hand signaling others to cross as well with them....he was evidently their leader and he was leading in the middle and paying close attention to his attack formation and driving the others on through leadership...something I have not seen for awhile in Syria...something has definitely changed in this latest offensive. He was not leading from the front but leading in the middle signaling he was taking the same exact risks as his own fighters that he was asking to attack.
Maybe it is the confidence gained in the sheer fact of surviving a massive Russian bombing campaign and then suddenly getting US CAS and far more weapons but it is more than that...they are now actually defeating IS on the battlefield something the Obama WH and Kerry never thought possible.
AND along the way severely beating up on the Iranians....
The photo was an exact 21st century copy of the US Army's Infantry School's "Follow Me" insignia....
BTW CrowBat made a recent comment on the ability of the Arab fighters to learn and adapt while the once famous IRGC has basically fallen apart in Syria...this photo depicts that shift......
Whoever has on the western side been "advising" FSA has done a great job of it.....

BUT Islamic State is not going to go easily into the night and the US finally must understand defeating IS can only be done by Arab Sunni's and their allies physically on the ground....all they need is US CAS and a full weapons flow and the US getting Russia off of their backs.

REMEMBER Obama and Kerry have often stated that both eastern Ukraine and Syrian cannot be militarily "won"...both war fronts are now showing that Obama and Kerry were totally wrong in their assumptions and that if the US had totally militarily supported/supplied both the FSA and UAF they are fully capable of holding their own and "winning".....

Sounds like Russia/Putin is starting to panic and seems to need the US to help hold the ceasefire....just like in eastern Ukraine..pull out their troops and mercenaries and peace would in fact return.....
