Default Rifle weapons: development and procurement

Infantry weapon development appears in several threads here, although the featured book concerns British infantry rifle development and procurement.

Not my subject, but I came across a podcast (7 mins) reviewing 'Weapon of Choice' by Dr Matthew Ford. The prologue says:
The process is examined through the lens of the series of new rifles adopted by the UK through the 20th century - the SMLE, No4 Enfield, SLR, SA80, and FN Minimi...... Ford presents his theses with a substantial level of detail and insight that I have not found elsewhere.

The Amazon link has no reviews:https://www.amazon.com/Weapon-Choice...02f710b6d35965

Added later. There is a recent SWJ article that may be relevant on a US weapon:http://smallwarsjournal.com/jrnl/art...he-ar-15-rifle

Good book. Ian's review is spot on.

All great truth passes through three stages: first it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
