Default New Twist on Terrorism? Incel the sexually frustrated

The Toronto van attack suspect was sexually frustrated and called for a "rebellion" by like-minded men just before he's accused of plowing a rental van into pedestrians, killing 10 people -- including at least one young woman.

Alek Minassian, 25, posted on his personal Facebook page that the “rebellion has already begun” for incels — someone who was involuntarily celibate — and hailed Elliot Rodger, a 22-year-old who killed six people in a 2014 vehicle and shooting rampage near the University of California, Santa Barbara.

After Alek Minassian’s Toronto van rampage that left 10 dead and 15 injured Monday, speculation abounded about his motive. The 25-year-old suspect had not been on the radar of law enforcement, and authorities said the killings “were not national security related.”

Then a Facebook post emerged from what appeared to be Minassian’s account. Posted the day of the attack, it hints at an unsettling motive.

“Private (Recruit) Minassian Infantry 00010, wishing to speak to Sgt 4chan please,” it reads. “C23249161. The Incel Rebellion has already begun! We will overthrow all the Chads and Stacys! All hail the Supreme Gentleman Elliot Rodger!”

At first glance, the language in the post invites a healthy dose of skepticism. Considering the enthusiasm with which internet trolls spin false narratives after a tragedy, this claim was met with caution. But recent reports suggest it is, in fact, authentic. Multiple news outlets say Facebook representatives have confirmed the veracity of the post, and Toronto Police in a press conference today indicated they also believe it is authentic.

So it appears the sexually frustrated are now another extremism group? Maybe the advancement in robotic sex dolls will mitigate this threat in the future? On a serious note, do we think a loose network of transnational, likeminded misogynists like INCEL could have formed before social media? Common criminals and the mentally ill are now worshipped as heroes online, and every now and then one of them will step over the line and commit their own acts of violence. ISIS terrorists demonstrated the effectiveness of vehicular assaults, the mass media and social media perpetuated it, so we should anticipate seeing more and more actors employing it. Future cities will be engineered differently to limit, not eliminate this threat.

    Default RE: "InCels"

The breathless media reporting on "involuntary celibacy" is reminiscent of the Case of the Trotskyist Anti-Soviet Military Organization in 1937. By definition, celibacy is voluntary, and a person who is seeking sexual relations but is sexually frustrated is not celibate. There have been three mass casualty attacks committed by males deemed to be sexually frustrated, including the recent attack in Toronto. However, in the prior two attacks, the perpetrators both had received psychiatric/psychological therapy for mental health problems.

Approximately 122 million Americans are in marriages, of which 15-20% (18-24 million people) are defined as sexless. In addition, 29% of Americans are single, including 40-50 million single heterosexual males. Adjusted for the age of the "InCel" attackers, the pool of sexually-frustrated heterosexual males could range from 20-25 million. If the media hysteria about this alleged "community" is to be believed, the United States alone is contending with a far larger population at risk of "violent extremism" than the Alt-Right (including white nationalists/supremacists, Neo-Confederates, anti-government libertarians, Christian supremacists, Neo-Fascists, etc.), black nationalists, or Islamists. If it is to be believed, one would expect open and secret organizations as well as prolific political advocacy and violence.

Yet that has not been the case. Radical Feminists are unfortunately distorting mass casualty attacks linked to mental health problems in order to further a campaign against what is referred to as "toxic masculinity".

    Default Another example?

    Via Twitter:
More toxic masculinity and misogyny leading to extreme violence and deaths: Annapolis Shooting Suspect Jarrod Ramos Blamed Capital Gazette for Reporting on his Stalking Conviction.
Author cites this news website as source:
Jarrod Ramos had been threatening the Capital Gazette since it reported on his vicious harassment of a woman in 2011.

Ya know, if they legalized prostitution and integrated into the mental health profession, there'd probably be a lot less empty cartridge casings rolling around the gutters these days.

nb; Lest anyone get their panties in a bunch, historical relevance to legtimizing the oldest profession in a Small Wars context can be found here.

A 'long read' on incels, mainly from a psychological perspective and the DHS has funded research:
The study’s chief investigator, psychologist John Horgan, has attributed 47 deaths in the past five years to the incel ideology and called it “nothing less than a new form of terrorism.” .....Still, although the latest incels.co user poll indicates that most incels believe they have been unfairly portrayed in the media, 13 percent say they agree that “incels are dangerous.”

Default To understand: read or watch

Two resources; one from Canada in PDF format and from their explanation:
The first step in understanding how to engage with these at-risk men is to understand how they communicate and share their worldview.Incels have developed their own coded and highly specialised language, which they use to communicate in online forums and spread their ideology. This guide aims to demystify the jargon and symbols they employ; provide definitions and context; and demonstrate how language choices fit into a wider system of belief.

Then a webinar from GWU, with the following SME:
The panelists, who discussed their research on the topic, were: Bruce Hoffman, the Shelby Cullom and Kathryn W. Davis Senior Fellow for Counterterrorism and Homeland Security at the Council on Foreign Relations and a professor at Georgetown University's Security Studies Program; Renske van der Veer, Director of the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) - The Hague; and Jacob Ware, Research associate at the Council on Foreign Relations.
