Default COIN.ARMY.MIL is now on AKO

    All,

    COIN.ARMY.MIL is now active!

The US Army/US Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Center is pleased to announce the opening of http://coin.army.mil to assist in distribution of COIN Knowledge across the force.

COIN.ARMY.MIL seeks to provide a single gateway to counterinsurgency resources for AKO authorized users. The site is designed to assist Soldiers in accessing existing COIN information on the web. The site will also highlight key COIN knowledge to the force, as well as highlight COIN related events and seminars hosted by the USA/USMC COIN Center. Finally, Soldiers can submit requests for assistance either to the COIN Center or CALL’s L2I program.

Over time, the site will develop according to the needs of the user base. Your feedback is important to us and we will seek to continually improve the resources available on the site.

Let us know what you think!
    All,

My latest project has come into being on AKO at http://coin.army.mil Unfortunately, It's only accessable to AKO account holders due to numerous issues. The good news is that the site is seeking to simply access for AKO (mostly army users) to existing knowledge, BCKS Discussion, Articles, Presentations, and even the SWJ Board! A SWJ RSS feed is on the main page.

For those with access, check it out and drop the COIN center a line as to what you think.

We're staffing a solution that will be Joint and Civilian Accessable to certain areas. Joint personnel can request to be sponsored into AKO by an Army member.

I gave it a "Washington read" earlier this morning (The "Washington read" is to pick up a new book in a bookstore and immediately flip to the index to see if you're mentioned). You guys need to link the relevant Strategic Studies Institute pubs.

    Yeah, I know.

Unfortunately, getting a new public website to do something like this under current regs is like pulling teeth and requires an extreme level of PAO and security vetting. Operating inside of AKO allowed us to deploy the site rapidly and meet about 80% of our goals because of the OPSEC restrictions.

Trust me, much of what I put there I get here. We're still working some sort of public presence site, but it's going to take awhile.

    CavGuy,

I paid a visit to the COIN AKO site, great stuff. My question, is there any discussion on how CERP provides a huge impact on the commander's COIN operations? As a contracting officer, I've been pushing this idea within my own training development. Seems CERP is often overlooked or not discussed enough.

Send me a PM and we can get some stuff. Glad to see some contracting expertise.

We have two new sites coming that will supplant the AKO - a fully public site, and a new sharepoint based collaboration site accessable to all CAC hard holders. I'm hoping to have both public by the end of next week.

    CavGuy:

Great web page; appreciate you and your team's effort in creating it. Looks like a lot went into it.

You may wish to cosndier highlighting Andrew Birtle's (of the Center of Military History) new book on the history of American coin doctrine, US Counterinsurgency and Contingency Operations Doctrine, 1942-1976. It is an excellent history of the subject and one that the SW community should consider.

Also, if you get the chance say hello to Mark Ulrich for me and give him my warmest regards and thanks for for being an excellent teacher.

Nice, can't wait for the Civilian Accessible portal to stand up. Did you guys have to build an AKO compatible role management system with NetCache or did the Army already have modules available for reuse?

With the rollout of JKO/DKO, you don't need Army sponsorship anymore. Open a JKO account and you also get AKO access, if I recall correctly.
