1919 Gen Lapperine Report on Tribal Control

I'm looking for a relatively obscure text that I've caught several references to in more current publications. Its a 146-page report on tribal control policy/desert policing by General Henri Lapperine, submitted to the French War Ministry Africa Section on 27 July 1919. I believe it is simply titled Note du General Laperrine sur les territoires Sahariens.

A scan would be greatly appreciated - a hard copy would be fantastic.

to a good university library? Or a DOD research library (such as the CARL, NDU, or the Army War College)? If so, I would try getting the librarians to see if they can't scare up a copy through interlibrary loan or electronically. An official request to the French national archives might also work.

John, I'm in the Ozarks. Library access hell, I wish I was just within a reasonable distance of a decent bookstore. You've seen those TV commercials about I've just found the internet.. Well, its someplace like that - except you can find little trailer churches in places that you wonder where the congregation is living. Getting online works best sittin' next to the still, but it works.

I could probably drive up to Leavenworth - its only about 300 miles or so. I don't believe there's a good university library any closer than that. But looking for the easy alternative first, the straightforward searches having come up empty, I was hoping to find someone that would share a scan.

I guess I'm going to have to get more creative if I actually want to get my hands on a copy.

Recommend contacting the author of the below - Hacksaw or COL Gentile may be able to provide POC info from his USMA time. I read parts of it and to write it he dived deep into the French WWI military archives. Different subject, but perhaps could point to the right place.

Thanks; I'm actually working along those lines trying to get in contact with another author who has written specifically on the topic, and who has referred to that specific document in a couple of his pubs. No luck yet....

In the classic book on French colonial warfare, 'The Conquest of Morocco: A Savage Colonial War' by Douglas Porch (my edition pub. 1987), makes three slight references to General Laperrine. Here's the answer I received:

...General Lapperine's report is in the French Mandate administrations archive in Nantes but has never been published. I'm afraid that I don't have a copy, having taken notes from it in situ. I'll be happy to provide the specific canton reference should you find yourself in the Nantes area....
