Default JFCOM -Credit where credit is due

Burrowing around JFCOM over the weekend (the real weekend, not the Christian version ) and printed out two of the documents I have heard Mattis talking about.
I fully confess to being pretty damn impressed. This is a whole step up from the normal standard of writing and thought, I have come to expect. Yes there are few annoying political compromises, and some things I just do not agree with, but on the whole, right now, I see them as being useful for the purposes they set out for.
I'm sure most here have read them, but here they are
    JOE
    CCJO

Some important reality checks from the CCJO and JOE
    • Hybrid only makes the footnotes, and is only mentioned once in the JOE.
    • Linear, and thus non-linear is never mentioned - hurrah!
    • Complex is mentioned only 5 times and usually in a useful context. The JOE falls over a bit on the "future is more complex," - which is a serious flaw, but hey. Nothing is perfect.
    • Human Terrain is never mentioned NOR is it in the JOE
    • The words System and Networks are generally used correctly throughout both documents
    • Disruption and attrition and correctly described! No more "Manoeuvre Warfare?"

all in all, it's good day for the "All Wars" folk!
Infinity Journal "I don't care if this works in practice. I want to see it work in theory!"

    - The job of the British Army out here is to kill or capture Communist Terrorists in Malaya.
    - If we can double the ratio of kills per contact, we will soon put an end to the shooting in Malaya.

    Default Hey, Wilf ...

I watched a UTube of GEN Mattis (cited in some thread).

In the course of which, he explained why EBO does not work in an open complex environment, as opposed to a closed complex environment. Explanation all in terms of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, which he correctly applied - without mentioning the Principle by name !

That guy is not only smart, he is sly. As a Marine, you don't want to give away your Intellectual Quotient !
