    Africa: The Shifting Intelligence Landscape
The Center for International Engagement at the National Defense Intelligence College is pleased to host a one day conference entitled “Africa: The Shifting Intelligence Landscape.” The purpose of this conference is to engage Africa experts in discussions about how open-source information can play a critical role in the prevention of genocide, support to peacekeeping missions and the protection of civilians in humanitarian disasters. This conference is designed to encourage critical thinking about intelligence issues related to Africa.

President Festus Mogae, former president of Botswana, will serve as the keynote speaker.

The target audiences for this conference are academics, diplomats, intelligence professionals, and industry experts who have an interest in Africa.

This thread refers to a RFI on genocide, which covers much of the same territory: http://council.smallwarsjournal.com/...light=genocide

I have PM'd Harry Phillips, who started that thread.

Thanks for contacting me about this event. I think it is an important event for anyone who can attend.

And apologies for not being as attentive to SWC as I would like. A bit too caught up with everday things here at CSL. But Friday is my last day here and on Monday I report in to PKSOI.

The MARO project has been on hiatus since its last meeting in early December 2008. They will be holding their next meeting, designed to engage the United Nations and NGO communities, in New York on 28 April 2009, at CFR. (please note: CFR is not in any way affiliated with MARO just letting the project use its space.) I am not able to attend as I will be participating in Austere Challenge 2009, the EUCOM exercise at Grafenwohr, during the same time frame.

Africa and genocide have been on the back burner for quite some time. Rather I've been engaged in the realm of new media and cyberspace as they relate to strategic communication.

I now have an opportunity to get back into the world of stability ops and peacekeeping, something I am just a bit more knowledgeable about. Should be interesting. I'll be certain to get back up on the net once I'm settled over there at PKSOI.

All the best to everyone. Thanks again for pinging me on this very important topic.
