    Default Explorer-Scouts Go Counter Terrorist

Scouts Train to Fight Terrorists, and More, By Jennifer Steinhauer. The New York Times, May 13, 2009.
The Explorers program, a coeducational affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America that began 60 years ago, is training thousands of young people in skills used to confront terrorism, illegal immigration and escalating border violence — an intense ratcheting up of one of the group’s longtime missions to prepare youths for more traditional jobs as police officers and firefighters.

Searching for a terrorist, Explorers with the Visalia Police Department combed a building rigged with tripwire, alarms and "poison" gas.

I imagine the Visalia Police Department must have to deal with terrorists barricaded with tripwire, alarms, and poison gas often.

    Default Hey Bourbon,

don't know about Visalia's needs; but my Sea Explorer unit of 50 years ago (sponsered by our in-town, very active USNR unit and its facilities - including our own "assault" vessel) would have ate all that stuff up.

All thanks for the memories ....

Exchange with an Iraqi soldier during FID:

Why did you not clear your corner?

Because we are on a base and it is secure.

    Default Hmm...

Sea Scouting (Sea Exploring) is still alive and well. It started back in 1912 and predates the more general BSA Explorer program (1 Jan 1959). Sea Scouting history is here (direct link).

And my manual - a good program:
