    Question Russia-Georgia OOBs

Does anyone know/have a good source for the approximate orders of battle for the recent Russia-Georgia conflict?

To clarify: I'm looking for actual unit IDs, down to BN-level where possible, rather than just numbers of stuff. I get that the Russians had 150 tanks, but looking for what BNs/BDEs were there by designation, if known.

There are 172 MBTs in the newer Russian Combined Arms Brigades. (3 x TB and 2 x MRB) A brigade that was a Battalion light would be close to that number. A square brigade would have about 130 tanks.

As concerns units, 19 MRD and 7 Guards Airborne are the only ones I have seen mentioned. Shots of T-62s would indicate that if it was 19 MRD they deployed an independent Tank battalion or maybe even used a Corps level reserve Tank battalion.

Sorry not to be more help.

2005 Russian jounal "Vlast" published special number "Russian army". Here is map of units that are located in North Caucasus.

The rest of material is here.

Week ago "Vlast" published special number about air force. You can find there also info about North Caucasus.

... but Russian downed planes were from.

    Su-24MR Ahtubinsk,
    Tu-22M3 Shaikovsk,
    2X Su 25 Budjonnovsk,

Here is some info from militaryphotos.net

    Quote:
The Russian troops involved were from various units from various regions (including "elite" units stationed further up north that were in the area for training), as well as VDV and Naval troops.

No - all formations involved are from the TC Military District. Of the 42nd MRD two companies of the two Chechen battalions were involved. The VDV forces (one regiment of the 76th Guards Airborne Div; the 104th) were deployed in Abkhazia (and were evident in the destruction of Georgian facilities in Poti). Then there were two battalions from the 33rd Separate Moto-Rifle Brigade. The bulk of the troops involved were from the 136th and 205th MRBs and 19th MRD. That is to say, the 58th Army. And we speak mostly of elements from each (individual regiments and battalions).

    Quote:
The Caucas region is the most tense region, where you have Chechnya, Dagestan, Georgia and all the other things that come with it

Chechnya is held by the 42nd MRD, not the 58th Army. There are MVD and GRU forces in place to tackle internal issues (there are four MVD divisions - the 2nd, 54th, 99th and 100th Operational Designation Divisions - and four separate brigades - the 22nd, 26th, 46th and 102nd brigades - as well as the 15th 'Scythian' OMON Regiment deployed in the NC). The 58th Army is a general purpose, second tier army primarily envisioned to handle problems in a low AFV threat environment. Lots of recon elements, plenty of artillery and enough motorized infantry to get them around.

The Wikipedia entry for the 58th Army has a good orbat with locations for the 58th as of 2007 or so.

Best site, Russian language, but Google Translate is a great thing, is http://www8.brinkster.com/vad777/rus...ricts/skvo.htm for the Russians and http://www8.brinkster.com/vad777/sng/gruzia/gruzia.htm for the Georgians. It needs to be used soon after 0000 GMT.
