Question Safety in green zone

My son just left today for the green zone. I am sick to my stomach. I hear sleeping arrangements are in trailers.

Is this true of government officials.

Yes, In trailers, like almost every FOB in Iraq. Nothing special there.

All things considered, the Green Zone is one of the safest places in Iraq to be. The only reason attacks there make the news so often is it is where the reporters are.

+1 to that. I spent some time in and out of there last year when the attacks were picking up. Still nothing like some of the Combat Outposts even when things were busy. Cavguy nailed it...one of the safest spots in all of Iraq. The trailers are sandbagged in, lots of nearby bunkers if needed and darn if those trailers didn't have some great A/C!

Most of your reporters never leave there because it is so safe. Like Cavguy said, if it is attacked, you always hear about it because the reporters are all there.

I'll throw a few prayers out there for your son. Don't worry, he's in good hands and thanks for his service!
