We shouldn't, of course, forget the heroic donkeys of the Arab Spring:

In President’s Square, the government dismantled a statue of Hafez al-Assad on June 10. The next day, residents recalled, a man nicknamed Gilamo put his donkey on the pedestal. Hundreds gathered, clapping, in mock displays of obsequiousness.

“Oh, youth of Damascus, we in Hama overthrew the regime,” residents recalled them chanting. “We removed Hafez, and we put a donkey in his place.”

Several residents said the security forces shot the donkey a few days later.
    Video of the incident here.
They mostly come at night. Mostly.

    Default Britain's 'donkey' soldiers

Writing anonymously, the author reveals that the Taliban have dubbed British soldiers "donkeys" who move in a tactical "waddle" because they now carry an average weight of 110lbs worth of equipment into battle.

Default The donkey truly is the friend of man

but he comes to the friendship on his own terms. There are a number of very amusing videos floating around in cyberspace involving U.S. military personnel who clearly did not grow up down on the farm learning that the donkey has a mind of his own.

A bit clich, but the almost caricatural image of this very typical westernized upper class Tehrani woman in the middle of the rural inland of Iran is somehow striking.

I met the odd couple on the path leading to Chak-Chak, one the most sacred Zoroastrian shrine (Zorostrianism is a religion and philosophy based on the teachings of Zoroaster also known as Zarathustra, who lived in Persia around 1100 BC). The site is located on a mountain a couple of hours away from Yazd, in the middle of a rocky

I know this donkey that lives with 11 horses in a small herd. She keeps to herself at the edge of the herd because she gets picked on. The remarkable thing about her is that if one of the horses is injured or sick and can't keep up with the herd, this donkey will stay by it and, it looks to me, guard it. Then when the horse is recovered it will rejoin the herd and the donkey will be on her own again.

If animals can be saints this donkey qualifies.

From what I’ve seen I would agree.
