I would say if you have to lose some ability to fight a future war which may or may not happen in exchange for success in the war you are currently fighting that is just a price you have to pay.
I would also say that the likelihood of a prolonged conventional war in the next 10 years is pretty remote. The likelihood of a prolonged guerilla war in the same period is about 100%, it still about 80% if you don’t count our current wars. So I know where I would put my money, if I was in charge.
