Unfortunately we lost MSG Benavidez in the late 1990s due to illness, but this speech from the early 90s is inspirational. I remember well the day he was awarded the MOH by President Reagan, but didn't know the rest of the story. He received 37 separate bayonet, bullet and shrapnel wounds during the six hour fire fight between his small team and an NVA Battalion. A few years prior to that he was in Vietnam as an advisor and stepped on a landmine. The doctors said he would never walk again.

What I recall most about MSG Benavidez was his work with troubled kids after he retired. God rest his soul.
