    Does Obama, Hollande and Merkel want to step forward and claim Minsk 2 is working??

    Oh hey look, Minsk II is working. Exclusive: Russia masses heavy firepower on border with Ukraine - witness: http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/...0OC2K820150527

    Over the four days, trains arrived delivering a total of at least 26 tanks, about 30 Uragan launchers, dozens of trucks ...as well as several armored personnel carriers and self-propelled howitzers

    NATO SecGen ups the rhetoric: "Russia's recent use of nuclear rhetoric, exercises & operations are deeply troubling" http://m.france24.com/en/20150527-ru...ampaign=buffer

    And the shellings just keep on shelling--and Minsk 2 is a raging success --seems though Russia forgot to stop shipping in literally tons of munitions.

    Dmitry Tymchuk: Military update 5.27

    Posted on May 27, 2015 by tilamuse

    Translated and edited by Voices of Ukraine

    Operational data from Information Resistance:

    Over the past 24 hours, attacks by Russian-terrorist forces have somewhat declined. Insurgents opened fire from various weapons, including 120-mm mortars, artillery systems, and armored vehicles, which were to be withdrawn from the line of contact under the Minsk Agreements.

    The most difficult situation is observed in the seaside direction. In the vicinity of Shyrokyne, terrorists have used the entire set of infantry weapons, including 120-mm mortars and AGS-17 “Plamya” automatic grenade launchers. Fire support from several firing groups of illegal armed gangs with 122-mm cannon artillery has been observed near Chermalyk and Pavlopil.

    In the vicinity of Pisky and Lozove, terrorists used anti-tank missile systems and grenade launchers, trying to strike the personnel and equipment of Ukrainian units located at the engineering facilities at the forefront.

    Insurgents fired at positions of the ATO forces from mortars and large-caliber machine guns near the settlements of Luhanske and Myronivskyi. Shelling of our positions from the enemy’s BMP-2 has been observed in the vicinity of Kyrove and Troitske; ZU-23-2 anti-aicraft autocannon has provided fire support [to the enemy]. During the firefights near Hranitne, Ukrainian troops have destroyed a 120-mm mortar detachment of terrorists with retaliatory fire.

    Movement of Russian-terrorist forces’ military units and equipment:

    A well-guarded convoy from six army trucks and three BTR-80 has been moved from Lutuhyne to Krasnyi Luch.

    A convoy of 16 vehicles and military equipment, including six specialized vehicles and special-purpose car vans of a long-distance communication station, two MT-LB and four ACS 2S1 “Carnation,” have been seen moving between Ilovaisk and Khartsyzsk in the direction of Donetsk.

    A transfer of seven terrorist tanks to a site near Stanytsia Luhanska through Mykolaivka has been observed; the tanks were subsequently used to conduct adjusted fire on the positions of the ATO forces in the area.

    In the vicinity of Donetsk, Novotoshkivka, and Katerynivka, a group of Russian-terrorist forces continue to get reinforced. A convoy from seven army trucks and two BMP-2 has procceded into the area.

    The transfer of armored vehicles has been recorded in the northwestern and eastern parts of Horlivka’s illegal armed gangs. During the past 24 hours, the transfer of four tanks has been observed to an area in the vicinity of Leninske – Shumy.

    Are we NATO and the US together with the EU sliding into a pre WW1 environment and or in fact are we actually sliding into a new European War OR worse yet are we on the literal verge of a war as of today 28 May????

    The core problem with informational warfare is the simple fact--does the leadership of the country using the informational warfare as part and parcel of their UW (means) that is supporting their "political warfare" (the ends) believe their own propaganda OR can they inherently tell the difference from propaganda and REALITY?

    I have for months now used the term to refer to any number of Russian comments either from Putin, his FM and or other Russian officials semi public or public or so called "insiders"---"an altered state of reality" or what Orwell calls "double speak".

    It is great that propaganda is directed at one's own civil society to ensure they support your decisions BUT when it becomes apparent that one's own propaganda is actually being believed by the Russian leadership WE the West are in serious trouble since they have nuclear weapons.

    Putin and his FM crossed into the realm of "believing their own propaganda about six months ago and it has become more apparent daily with increased threats of force against NATO, increased and reckless nuclear threats against NATO and the US, to the unannounced and not registered with OSCE snap AF and AD exercises over the last few days to this comment below.

    Putin vastly over estimated the takeover and eventual annexation of eastern Ukraine, he and especially his military vastly and the word is vastly over estimated the resiliency of the Ukrainian Army to come back after Crimea, he vastly underestimated the willingness of so call ethnic Russians in Donbass to flock to his banner, he vastly underestimated the day to day cost of the war in the Ukraine which is around 30-4-M USD per day and the drain on his elite units together with their actual manpower loses.

    AND he totally underestimated NATO, the EU and especially the US with it's even poor Presidential leadership--he had assumed that as in the invasion of Georgia the West would go back to "business as usual" which it did under Bush BUT this time it did not go back to "business as usual".

    You can time by both Putin and his FM they have been attempting for the last four months to do exactly that get back to "business as usual" and have been floating a number of "options" that are not designed to "save face and find an exit" BUT rather are designed to reinforce the "image" Putin is the overall "winner" and damaging the EU, NATO and the US in that "win".

    On top of everything he vastly underestimated the Ukrainian government as he assumed if he just piled on the economic pressure via natural gas, import stops and blockades, and applied massive pressure the Ukrainian would turn away from both NATO and the EU---Putin simply did not understand the underlying civil society change in the Ukraine after Maidan--the Ukraine did not cave and has stayed on the path to Europe.

    Actually his military also underestimated the willingness of the UA to fight back and both the Ukrainian government actions together with the UA being able to box in his military in a limited area of eastern Ukraine has effectively backed Putin into a corner where any compromise now looks like a "loss" to both him and the Russian civil society.

    That is also an inherent danger in the over use of propaganda--you set the expectation levels to high thus anything else is a "failure".

    Remember this is an ongoing "war of perception" and "perceptions count".

    I wrote her over a year ago Putin will choose the "war path" and gave a number of reasons for that and IMO he has in fact chosen that path.

    All indications over the last ten days fully indicates a major offensive is in progress and in typical Russian military fashion it starts slow and builds--we see that slow start already unfolding daily.

    AT the same time the "war" rhetoric" has increased massively from "insiders" stating "we are at war with the US" to this below and on and on.

    THEN we got over the last few days a number of press releases, insider comments, and article that the "New Russia" project was a failure, coupled with Russian FM comments as well as comments from Putin "we want the separatists to remain in the Ukraine--ALL nothing more that smoke and mirrors or typical Russian camouflage.

    ALL this at the exact same time massive weapons and unit buildup is currently ongoing on the Rostov border areas in the same august 2014 invasion routes into the Ukraine, massive arms shipments via rail have arrived as will as a large Russian military convoy crossed today into the Ukraine.

    It appears to be reaching an hysterical level which is totally un-normal for Russia.

    so again the simple does all of this indicate "a willingness to fulfill Minsk 2" OR has Putin chosen the "path to war"?

    IMO again--he has chosen the path to "war". And it is coming sooner than later.

    After a long night and now in the morning series of massive shellings across the entire Minsk 2 front lines coupled with major ground attack/close combat one might be inclined to state “we are seeing the slow but steady battlefield prep (using traditional Russian attack methods) for a major offense if it has not already started”.

    OR does none of the below indicate anything different?????

    One of the best social media open source intel analysis done on Russian involvement in the Ukraine done in combination with bellingcat and the Atlantic Council.

    Well worth logging in and watching--reports will definitely be posted........just wish the mainstream western media had done this far far earlier and now they play catchup--exception is Reuters who has broken a number of stories on Russian military movements by being physically on the ground especially this week

    "Hiding in Plain Sight" has now been released as a report.

    May 27, 2015

    Hiding in Plain Sight: Putin's War in Ukraine and Boris Nemtsov's Putin War.

    By Maksymilian Czuperski, John Herbst, Eliot Higgins (bellingcat), Alina Polyakova, and Damon Wilson

    Russia is at war with Ukraine. Russian citizens and soldiers are fighting and dying in a war of their government's own making. Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to deny Russian involvement in the fighting, but the evidence is overwhelming and indisputable. Drawing upon open source information, Hiding in Plain Sight: Putin's War in Ukraine provides irrefutable evidence of direct Russian military involvement in eastern Ukraine.

    This report, the result of an Atlantic Council Working Group launched to examine direct Russian military involvement in Ukraine, has five key findings:

    1.Satellite images confirm the movement of Russian troops and camp buildups along the Ukrainian border.

    2.Russian training camps stationed along the Ukrainian border are the launching points of Russia's war in Ukraine. These camps are the staging ground for Russian military equipment transported into Ukraine, soon to join the separatist arsenal, and for Russian soldiers mobilized across Russia to cross into Ukraine.

    3.Commanders order Russian soldiers to conceal the identifying features of military vehicles, remove insignia from uniforms, and travel across the border to join separatist forces in eastern Ukraine.

    4.A variety of Russian manufactured arms and munitions—not used by the Ukrainian military—have appeared in the hands of separatists, including shoulder launched surface-to-air missiles (MANPADS), various types of rocket launchers, anti-tank guided missiles, landmines, and various small arms.

    5.During key offensives, Russian forces in Ukraine have received cover from Russian territory. A combination of satellite data, crater analysis, and open source materials confirms that many attacks originated in Russia.

    Will be interesting to see just how long the Spetsnaz CPT will hold out on saying anything as his trial goes forward in the coming weeks.
    This is an interesting comment from a former Swedish SF sniper type who fought with the Azov BN and is now their senior combat trainer for new recruits joining the Azov BN.

    I have mentioned that there will be a serious moral problem in the coming months and years within Spetsnaz when the story gets fully around their Spetsnaz Brigades--nations and their militay do not "abandon" their elite fighting units and members AND then expect no blowback.

    Will be interesting when "cognitive dissonance" fully sets in what they will be telling the Ukrainian State Security about Russian Spetsnaz operations inside the Ukraine and the more important question WHEN did they start??

    There were some Russian Face Book entries that indicated Russian Spetsnaz was already in the Ukraine during Maidan.

    so Russian troop losses are in fact becoming a sensitive informational warfare message aimed fully at the Russian civil society--the losses must in fact be far higher than previously reported.

    Impatient Putin
    Posted on May 28, 2015

    Once flagship of a robust Russian military press, NVO isn’t what it was. What is after 15 years of Putin? But NVO still has moments. Its 22 May editorial is one.

    NVO writes that recent Roskosmos failures overshadowed President Vladimir Putin’s mid-May meetings with Defense Ministry and defense industry leaders on the GOZ and GPV. Still the 9 May Victory Day parade on Red Square showed much has been done to rearm Russia. But much doesn’t mean every problem has been solved. Rather, NVO contends, problems in the realization of GPV 2011-2020 and GPV 2016-2025 are “snowballing.”

    The paper offers cases in point:
    ◾The fifth generation T-50 (PAK FA) fighter didn’t fly over Red Square even though it’s supposed to be in serial production already. The impatient Putin gave Russian designers just five years to field the T-50 while the Americans took 14 years from first flight to first delivery with the F-22 and 12 with the F-35.
    ◾Only a short time — two years — has been allowed for serial production of the new Armata tank. The Soviet T-64 took 10-15 years from the start of testing until all development work was finished. The call for Armata tanks and other armored vehicles on the same base in 2015 is just a “wish.” Serial production won’t begin earlier than 2018.
    ◾There are delays in other key military programs — S-350 Vityaz, S-500 Triumfator-M, and missile defense systems (no specifics provided).

    Then NVO reels off a list of weapons the Russian military needs that, the editorial asserts, aren’t exactly rolling off assembly lines:
    ◾Transport aircraft;
    ◾UAVs;
    ◾Air-launched missiles;
    ◾Air ordnance;
    ◾Artillery and fire control systems;
    ◾Space systems.

    Regarding the final bullet, the paper notes that “even a huge investment of budget resources still won’t save Roskosmos from its systemic crisis.”

    NVO concludes:

    “On the whole, fulfillment of GPV-2020 and GPV-2025 has been summoned to restore Russia to military parity with NATO, if only the Russian economy can withstand the strain. If not, the history of the USSR may be repeated.”

    Some will quibble about particular systems NVO claims Moscow will have trouble fielding, but the general point remains: far from everything needed by a military neglected for 20 years is being successfully procured. There are more than a few independent Russian economists who say Moscow’s current high level of defense spending is damaging an economy already challenged by lower oil prices and Western sanctions

    Also appears that open source analysis of the Spetsnaz and their deaths contributed to a rather sudden decision on Putin's part to actually admit Russian troops are being killed in some numbers--not even talking about the wounded which have been heavy as well.
