Russia's decisive and rapid use of hard power overcame many years and millions of dollars of soft power invested by the United States. With the political situation in the country, is Ukraine any more likely to join NATO or the EU as it was before the fall of Yanukovych's government? I doubt it. And now the country is facing economic crisis and a significant military threat to its territorial integrity. Though I'm skeptical, this event should encourage us to reexamine the basic assumptions of our foreign policy.
