The units in Syria similar to the units in eastern Ukraine come from their top trained units designated as wartime units who are the first to deploy--since they are the most highly trained-ie the Airborne unit and the SOF and Spetsnaz units.
The Russian units listed are in fact the exact same combat units who had fought in eastern Ukraine thus they are bringing their combat experience into Syria.
We should start seeing these initial units swapped out at about the fourth month which is what Russia did in the Ukraine as the Ru MoD will attempt to keep down their combat loses which they have already had--this rotation concept also keeps the loses down in the mother units the small units come from.
Thirdly, the Russian MoD is practicing an interesting doctrinal concept of small "tactical" units that form up and then break down depending on the mission set--something they also have been exercising in eastern Ukraine.
Russia is using both the eastern Ukraine and Syria to shake out their doctrine and gain combat experience across a large number of smaller units that will feed back into the mother units.
