If you're implying that the then Brown Government ok'ed the compassionate release to improve the chances of British companies doing business with Libya then I honestly don't know. |

with up close knowledge of how the previous regime worked, and of the Scottish Executive, I prefer the incompetence theory as opposed to conspiracy!

US senators demand BP records on Libya lobbying Don't you just love Charles Schumer? Saw him on TV saying that if anyone believes that al-Megrahi's release followed by BP's oil deal with Libya is a coincidence then he has a bridge in Brooklyn to sell them. Priceless.

This story is immaculately timed, note it appears to be from a Libyan source and concerns a private visit by a UK politician much admired in the USA. Makes one pause for thought, not only what happened, but who is involved.

Now will the US Congressional enquiry ask him to appear to give evidence? The Scotsman today had a story that the Scottish minister responsible might be called:http://www.scotsman.com/news/MacAski...-to.6425434.jp

They could better worry about their own dysfunction than putter about in the affairs of other Nations. This one is almost as bad as then Senator John Warner threatening to subpoena -- not call, not ask, subpoena -- General
Sir Michael Jackson to testify on his supposed 'insubordination' to that twink Wesley Clark. Sheesh. |

But I do agree that the US Senate should be holding hearings on really important stuff... like how Afghanistan was allowed to become a narco state. But then that would be a little too close to home. As to the Pristina Airport incident. I don't think they should be looking at a charge of insubordination but rather one of cowardice. It also brings into question this whole "red card" thing and how its use can screw up things in a shooting war.

Elsewhere the twists of the Lockerbie bomber's release have been reported and appear to confirm how devious the release was.
In a twist the high morale ground taken by the USA appears to have a problem, based on a short UK press story: Quote:
There is a far longer report in The Guardian:http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/fe...s-77-questions

Disappointing, but no surprise from the people who gave us the saga of the FBI and Whitey Bulger.

After a delay Adelbert Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi died on the 20th May 2012 and the whole issue of who was responsible remains. For a host of reasons officialdom wants this to simply go away.
Via this article:http://www.opendemocracy.net/paul-ro...-case-unclosed is another, behind a pay-wall alas:http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/1...98.2011.632245
