Default Digital Availability of Old Books?

Here is a truly difficult-to-fill RFI….If anyone is aware of the existence of any of the following books in a digital format, please let me know:

A Treatise on the Mode and Manner of Indian War, by James Smith, published in 1812.

An Elementary Treatise on Advanced Guard, Out-Post and Detachment Service of Troops, by Dennis Hart Mahan, published in 1847.

The Partisan, by De Jeney, published in 1760.

Military Instructions for Officers Detached in the Field; Containing a Scheme for Forming a Corps of a Partisan Petit Guerre, by Roger Stevenson, published in 1775.

I was able to dig this one up: A Historical Account of the Expedition Against the Ohio Indians in the Year 1764, by William Smith, published in 1765. However, its a page by page scan. I'm putting it together into a single pdf file....

Edit to Add: Well, I finished that one - its a huge pdf file - 187MB. But its eminently readable; each individual page was originally a high-resolution scan image. If anyone wants it, just let me know.

Here's a thumbnail link to a lower-resolution image of the cover page:

Jedburgh,

If you're still interested in, you can find the book you already converted in PDF here :
http://www.archive.org/details/histaccount00smitrich

It's available in PDF, DjVu and TXT formats, and the PDF file is 'only' 21 MB (and DjVu format, which is generally as readable as PDF one, is 3.5 MB).
I've already searched for the other books you're looking for, but haven't finished yet; I'll keep you updated if I find something new.

Best,

CB

Thanks! I really appreciate the link.

That pdf file is significantly smaller than the version I put together - but, then again, the version I have on hand is that of the original book published in 1765, while the pdf at your link is that of a 1907 reprint. However, that gives me something else to look for - I'm far more likely to find a hard copy of the 1907 reprint than I am of the original....

Hi Jed, Actually, I'd like a copy of the original. How I'm going to get it, however, is another matter <wry grin>.

You're welcome Jed.

To share your 187 MB file, unless you have your own webspace large enough, I guess you have to split it in at least two parts and upload it on websites offering this type of service (upload and share) for free (generally up to 100 MB). Check MiHD.net or www.zshare.net, for example.

Best,

CB

Maybe OT but I would like to ask you if it is possible to find a digital copy of

"Defeating Communist insurgency;: The lessons of Malaya and Vietnam" written by Sir Robert Thompson.

It's unavailable in Italy and maybe it has been digitalised and sold as an ebook.

Thanks

Jedburgh,
Have you had any success in locating a digital copy of The Partisan, by De Jeney, published in 1760? I am trying to locate one.
Thanks,
R. Fanelli
