Mark L. Brown Jr. is a major in the US Army Special Forces and thesis student at the National Defense University. He originally enlisted in the Army in 1994 as a Combat Medic before attending the Special Forces Qualification Course and graduating as an engineer sergeant. He was commissioned as a 2LT after graduation from Virginia Tech and became a CH-47 Pilot before once again attending the Special Forces Qualification Course to become a Special Forces Officer. His Special Forces Operational Detachment A was the first to implement village stability operations in July 2009 in Day Kundi Province, Afghanistan. Before his Master's program, he served with 7th Special Forces Group. His next duty assignment is with Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, KY.
